I keep all my cans and bottles in a clear bag so the people picking them up can see them right away. The thought occurred I could tape a tenner or even a twenty to a can. At least the money would go towards someone making some kind of effort.

But there's always unintended consequences, right? What could go wrong?

Someone takes the money and leaves the cans. Maybe they ripped open the bag and made a mess.

Maybe someone fights over the bag when they both see the money inside it or word gets out and now you have a bunch of mentally unstable people coming to get your cans. Not to be a NIMBY, but they are generally not the kind of people you want to be around.

I think that money would be better spent donated to a homeless shelter or the food bank or some other ngo helping street peeps. Good on you for trying to help out though.

I was trying to eliminate the middleman. I would hide the money in the center of the bag so you can't see it. I would hope it's enough to buy some food but not (drug of choice). As for NIMBY, the bag is only out on garbage day.
