Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

6. Defend your opinion

This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

Just as much as I don't care about Epstein himself. He was a billionaire who, unsurprisingly, had his finger in the child sex trafficking ring or whatever the hell he was doing. Whether or not he killed himself, I'm just glad he is dead at all, one less billionaire crooked piece of shit is a nice checkmark in my book.

And everyone has been clamoring for weeks and months now about these Epstein Files to be released. I know why people want them released, but at the same token, it shouldn't be a shock to anyone that nothing is off the table when it comes to being a crooked criminal when it comes to the higher hierarchy.

I mean, how much evidence do we need as a society, as to how corrupted rich people, politicians, religious figures even are? Look at how they all behave, do you really need these files released so that you can just have yet another confirmation on a mountain of other confirmations as to how corrupt and criminal these people are?

Especially Trump of all people, the guy has not been hiding it since the day his fat-ass sat back in office. He's dodged impeachments, he's dodged numerous times of being jailed, of course he's convicted but what good is that when the fucker never saw any harsh punishment for it?

So no, I don't care about the Epstein Files. I'm annoyed so many people invest all of their time and energy into them so far. When, the clear cut evidence is there about how these people operate and the measures they take to dodge any and all accountability. Why do you yet need another confirmation?

I understand your position. The thing that matters is that trumps dipshit followers seem to care. After all the things they are willing to accept this one conspiracy smelling thing gets them like coke. So let's ride the wave and hope his dillusional followers rip him a new one and maybe one or two change their behavior after they got a child molester elected...

Yup. That’s unpopular alright

My personal theory is that Trump isn't implicated in them. The reason he's fighting so hard to keep them secret is that there are names in there that the public has never heard of. The oligarchy hides behind figureheads like Trump and Musk and Zuck. Those dipshits are nothing without the finaciers getting rich behind their political cover, and those are the people that Epstein would want to blackmail.

Nobody will be surprised if Trump is implicated in the Epstein files. Supporters will continue to reject reality, and critics will simply have yet another confirmation that Trump belongs in prison.

But those other names, the multi-millionaires and billionaires who don't have a rabid cult of followers, they will quickly find themselves under the bus when the files are eventually released. Those people write big checks to corrupt politicians and judges so that they can avoid consequences, but that grift only works if there are no eyes on the process.

Releasing the files will expose countless child rapists, and that's going to hit Republicans right in the war chest. It will hit some Democrats, too, I'm sure, but the Republicans are the ones with the most to lose.

I sorted get it. Blows me away that having just a picture with epstein would have sunk any politicians career in the 80's and 90's.

Back when there was some last remaining shreds of dignity that there were for politicians.

Agreed 1000%. Given the context of everything that’s happening, I completely understand why the files are important. But in a vacuum, I don’t know why I or anyone should care. This is just what the billionaire class does.

I’m hoping that the release of those files can maybe move the needle and wake some people up. But I don’t understand why everybody cares so much—particularly people who aren’t anti-MAGA. We already know the billionaire class is full of pedos, and if you don’t already know that, I don’t see how the release of those files would make any difference at all.

I highly doubt it'll move the needle in anyway. Like, I'm seeing all of this as just one more reason for those who hate Trump, hate billionaires/millionaires, hate politicians and whatever to just sleep better (or not) at night knowing again how bad these people are. Like it won't do anything.

If we were living in a world and a country, that actually means business, that actually had teeth, that actually held these people accountable and did not dick around with giving light fines or jailtime. This would obviously have a tremendous effect.

I mean, we've witnessed an alarming amount of corruption and still are witnessing it. Why the fuck would knowing all of these people have connection with their fellow shithead billionaire pedo be any different?

Didn't we have some insight through everything that happened with Weinstein about how Hollywood is filled with pedos? I mean come on.
