We still haven't replaced Steve Round. Wonder if we're planning on doing so.

[-] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I thought I heard that Airpod Albert is now the assistant manager and it was always the plan to phase out Round.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Wasn't he already assman last season though? Are we just happy with having one less coach then?

[-] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Looks like you're right, he has been listed as the assistant manager for years now. But when Arteta is thinking on the sidelines, it's always been Albert - I don't think I've ever seen him and Round conferring in the technical area. My theory that it was always the plan to have Round move on is based on that. In addition, I heard rumors (maybe from Arseblog?) that Round was primarily brought in to address the locker room culture, and management may feel that that issue has been addressed now.

Courtois is out with an ACL. That's a big fucking rip.

I'm sure there's a working fax machine at David de Gea's house

[-] ironeaglebird@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

Man United treated him poorly after making the seventh most appearances for them. It's not his fault the tactics evolved past him.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Eh, did they though? They stuck with him for a long time, way past him being at his best. They even kept him and let Henderson go on loan when Henderson was arguably better. I'd argue they've treated Maguire way worse; he was gonna be leaving no matter what this window, no need to strip the captaincy before he left.

[-] ironeaglebird@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

Oh man. Forgot Maguire was even still there. Ten Hag has no trust in him and then we'll probably still see Maguire the number 1 CB for England.

I genuinely think the best thing in the world would be Harry Kane stays, then leaves on a free when Sp**s come 8th.

[-] Matt_Sams_314@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Leaves on a free to come back to Arsenal

@Astrealix love that Ellen White is the only BBC pundit to predict that #Arsenal will win the league: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/66434067

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Keown needs more faith in us.

[-] gunnerfunda@arsenalfc.social 2 points 1 year ago

@Astrealix @thatdosbox Ellen also predicts Villa will be fourth!

[-] thatdosbox@mstdn.ca 2 points 1 year ago

@gunnerfunda @Astrealix yeah, that feels like a stretch, but it would be hilarious if it happens. I'm more surprised nobody put Brighton in fourth.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Kane's good as gone. THere goes Spurs lmfao

[-] MHPengwingz@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Dude imagine he flakes out on it after all this lmao

[-] Matt_Sams_314@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Annoying that they'll actually get a pile of cash for him though

[-] WorldcupCSR@arsenalfc.social 4 points 1 year ago

@Matt_Sams_314 @Astrealix yeah but they’ve already spent a bunch and/or are close to spending a lot (on a few defenders I think); have a feeling that spending happened because they knew they’d sell Kane.

[-] ronsboy67@mas.to 1 points 1 year ago

@WorldcupCSR @Matt_Sams_314 @Astrealix What would that mean for them if he said "hell no, I won't go"?

[-] WorldcupCSR@arsenalfc.social 5 points 1 year ago
[-] ronsboy67@mas.to 1 points 1 year ago

@WorldcupCSR @Matt_Sams_314 @Astrealix That's what I was thinking - a magnitude 25 on the Richter quake as Gooners the world over literally rofl. To borrow from Bill the Bard "tis a consummation devoutly to be wished" 😁

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

EXCL: Harry Kane agrees 'deal in principle' to join local rivals on expiry of contract in 2024. Arteta said to "have literally brainwashed and hypnotised [him]" into joining North London rivals.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Carabao cup is already kicking off, and our Mauro Bandeira has made his senior debut with Colchester there! They lost 3-0 on pens after a 2-2 draw.

[-] coygsu@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Arsenal need to sell quicker. We have depth but we also have deprecating assets. The longer some of the players stay without playing time, the more they lose transfer market value. Xhaka and Turner have gone for transfer fees, am I missing anyone? Just two while the window narrows is not a good start.

[-] ironeaglebird@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 year ago

Trusty went to Sheffield United for €10m.

[-] coygsu@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Correct, I need action on Tavares, Cedric, Pepe, Sambi, Holding, and Runarsson. Luckily there are some desperate clubs out there.

[-] ironeaglebird@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

Besikatas going to double their bid for Holding from 2.5 to 5. Lol.

Sambi can go on Loan to Burnley and I'm sure a club will come in for Tavares. Runnarsson will probably see out his contract to next summer tho.

[-] MHPengwingz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Orny just tweeted... Kane's leaving wow

He's actually going through with it

[-] hangonasecond@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

There is no fucking way Caicedo lives up to these reported fees right? I'm glad we backed out months ago

[-] ironeaglebird@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

No way we would've spent another £100m+ on one player and not be getting FFP coming after us.

[-] I_am_the_grass@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

If the Delaney story is true, I can see us going for Youssouf Fofana. Very similar profile as Rice in the sense that he can play as a 6 and an 8.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I call bullshit. We have 4 fucking sixes already. We need to sell, not buy.

[-] I_am_the_grass@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Are you counting Elneny? He's not really fit. So 3.

My suspicion is we want two defensive 8 options but neither Jorginho nor Partey can play there.

Because if Rice gets injured now we're fucked.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Partey can definitely play there, he played 8 at Atlético Madrid. Elneny's gonna be fit soon enough, and will probably be here this season given we just extended him to let him recover, at most being sold in January cuz I don't see someone buying him right now while the return time is unknown. We don't have room for any more signings lol. We have like a 33 man squad right now, and we can only register 25.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Even just counting players with the new kit for their portrait, we have 27. The only players there I'd say are redundant are Cedric and Runarsson. I'd rather have Holding than a fifth 6, given we have so many injury prone fullbacks. If Zinny and Tierney and Tomi all get problems like they usually do, we're down to Gabriel, Kiwior, and Saliba as the only CBs if we sell Holding. And that also means only having one option for RB and LB — Timber and White. While losing all those fullbacks would be unlucky as fuck, Zinny is injury prone, Tierney can literally slip in the shower and be out for months, and Tomi... has been frankly stupidly unlucky.

[-] I_am_the_grass@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Elneny's injury will keep him out and without match fitness until at least Jan.

Cedric, Holding, Runarsson, Okonkwo, Marquinhos, Tavares, Balogun. Possible even Tierney. That's 7-8 players leaving.

Coming in will be Raya, maybe a RW. And now maybe a CDM. I'm not saying it's likely, but I can see it happening.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Not convinced it'll take that long with Elneny given he's in training already but I'm no expert. You forgot Sambi btw.

Even after all those departures, though, we're still just at 25 lol. You could sell Tierney yeah but then you'd just have to replace him unless you wanted Holding to be RCB backup again, cuz you'd have to move Timber to LB.

Our current squad:

GKs: Ramsdale, Hein, Runarsson, Okonkwo (4)

DF: Zinchenko, Tierney, Tavares, Gabriel, Kiwior, Saliba, Timber, Holding, White, Tomiyasu, Cedric (11)

MF: Partey, Rice, Jorginho, Elneny, Lokonga, ESR, Havertz, Ødegaard, Vieira (9)

FW: Saka, Nelson, Pepe, Marquinhos, Jesus, Nketiah, Balogun, Martinelli, Trossard (9)

That's 33 without Raya. We need to sell or loan 8 to even register everyone without Raya. Saka and Saliba and Hein are 21 now so we have to register them.
