The lion king remake is number 1? Would not have guess that

[-] MisterMoo@kbin.social 34 points 1 year ago

It’s recent and that list may not account for inflation.

[-] ClarkZuckerberg@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Unless stated, they don’t count for inflation. The Lion King remake was huge. One of the only movies my parents have seen in theatres in the past 10 years.

[-] Pandantic@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

This is what I’m thinking. They are all remakes or sequels - they can’t be of all time adjusted for inflation.

I do feel a little sad that Into the Spider-Verse didn’t make the list. That movie was groundbreaking on the technical and stylistic front, with a rock-solid script to boot.

[-] ClarkZuckerberg@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago

It’s not even close. It didn’t even crack $400m. The new one is making a big increase though and already at $600m+

The different art styles for each universe makes the sequel look even better.

[-] SoLongSealion@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

They did that in the first one too, no?

[-] redsol2@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

They did, but the majority of the story took place in a single universe. The art style differences were usually restricted to the individual characters.

Maybe the next one will do better when Chris Pratt voices all of the Spider-Man characters.

When you release a movie people actually wants to watch and take their kids to, it makes money. What a mistery!

[-] FinalFallacy@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago

The 90s Super Mario Brothers movie walked so this one could run. Because that's a really low bar to set.

[-] Starburn@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I quite enjoyed the new Mario movie. It has enough Easter eggs and references to keep me entertained and bright and flashy enough for my kids to like it too.

[-] slimerancher@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Wow, that's amazing. At least now we don't have to worry about not getting more Mario movies.

[-] johnthedoe@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 year ago

Now we have to worry about getting endless Mario movies

[-] slimerancher@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Oh no...

Nintendo is very careful with their IPs, like not releasing multiple 3D Mario game on one console and so on, so hopefully they will be careful with movies too.

[-] ClarkZuckerberg@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

The fact that it’s been months since the movie came out and we don’t have an announcement of a sequel or like ten movies making up a shared universe? That’s awesome. I want them to take their time and not overdo it.

We also have a writers strike in the US so that could be part of the reason we haven't heard much

[-] johnthedoe@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Let’s hope the Hollywood mentality (minions of all people) aren’t pushing them too hard.

[-] TheQuietCroc@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

I think Hollywood needs Nintendo more than Nintendo needs Hollywood.

[-] omgarm@feddit.nl 2 points 1 year ago

The first one was fun though.

[-] Grangle1@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Maybe not endless Mario movies, but more Nintendo movies for sure. I've seen rumors that about an animated Zelda movie floating around with the success of Mario.

[-] kratoz29@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

So do you think it is gonna keep growing?

[-] Cruxifux@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I didn’t even know there was a frozen 2
