Too (hot+humid)tropical Friday Shave

Two pass, close but not too close shave. No nicks, cuts nor irritation. Finally able to go across the grain on pimple~d spot.

Love me some good smelling grass of Port Au Prince, finished with herbal flowers of Saeryan.

August ANG Drill Day 1... Goop and an Octoblade

I failed to send blades ahead for my Air National Guard drill in New Hampshire, so I've had to resort to a travel sized can of goop and a Harry's blade that I've kept for emergencies.

  • Brush: None
  • Razor: Harry's Disposable 4 blade
  • Blade: N/A
  • Lather: Barbasol Sensitive Skin
  • Post Shave: None
  • Fragrance: Dua's Legendary Knight

Honestly, the experience using this equipment wasn't bad. It has legitimately been 8 years since I used a multi-blade razor and... maybe in the process of wetshaving, I learned how to get better at shaving. By learning technique, I had a really good shave. Like surprisingly good.

I guess I was just bad at shaving before wetshaving... and that's why I suffered from irritation, etc...

I've often wondered what it would be like if I had to go back to a multiblade (Gillette Mach 11 or whatever they're up to these days). I suspect you're right, a lot of irritation we experienced with those was from poor technique.

I use cartridges pretty frequently and have the same experience as you. Gillette carts still give me irritation, but Harry's and some others work quite well.

Almost certainly it's improved technique, and for me also knowing not to use the same cartridge for 2 months ๐Ÿค

  • Brush: Summer Break Soaps w/Maggard 28mm Silvertip Badger
  • Razor: Gillette Red Tip Super Speed
  • Blade: Personna 74 (17)
  • Lather: Chicago Grooming Co. - Caoba - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Logbook - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Eufros - Dama Noche - Balm

The bot continues to do a good job. I can't have the bot "pin" posts, because that functionality is broken at the moment. The bot relies on a library which relies on Lemmy, and something broke back in version 18.0. I guess they haven't fixed it yet. Pinned posts are stupid anyway, right?!

Nice shave. The Red Tip is superb, and this blade is still chugging along.

  • Prep: hot shower
  • Brush: Yaqi Cashmere Synthetic Shaving Brush, Dandelion Green Handle, 24mm
  • Razor: Gillette Flare Tip Superspeed A1 (1955)
  • Blade: Lord Super Chrome (3)
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann - Presto Shaving Soap
  • Post Shave: Nivea - Moisturizing Post Shave Balm

I know Nivea doesn't get a lot of love around here, but I've always liked using their balm for when I don't have one that matches the soap (eg when using a soap sample, like today).

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago

Nivea is a good balm. I saw the non-sensitive version in a store the other day and thought about picking it up... but it'll have to wait until I finish something else. I have the sensitive version and like it.

  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Karve Overlander
  • Blade: Bic Chrome
  • Lather: Macduffs - Dark Sky Preserve - Soap
  • Post Shave: Macduffs - Dark Sky Preserve - Aftershave

Great shave. The scent is great and the soap works perfect. I wish they had an alcohol based splash but this one does work ok for me.
