They probably just replied with "ew, no. WTF?" And them someone writes an article about it.
Thats pretty much all it was. Guy asked tech support if its OK to smell the fan exhaust, and they told them they dont recommend it so as to not give anyone a reason to do something needlessly stupid, in case something does go wrong.
It smells so good. But every time I do I think "yep this is pure cancer" and I stop.
Back in my day we'd just huff the gas fumes while we were filling up the car.
