Imagine a character who has nothing but mimics for gear and the only thing keeping them all in line is sheer terror.

I just feel bad for the loincloth mimic.

That one’s a volunteer.

there's a special genre of erotic content across all mediums like that (though mainly hentai)

[-] Aaroncvx@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

Undead Unluck has a character who constantly regenerates his body and wears a mimic as clothing. It would be pretty practical for adventuring.

Yeah I like it a lot.

[-] Shhalahr@beehaw.org 9 points 11 months ago

Sounds like Crowley and his plants.

And that's another David Tennant character from a streaming TV adaptation. Guess he's just good at that sort of thing.

The Doctor also regularly intimidates whole alien galactic empires and eldritch abominatios from beyond space and time. By just standing there, talking. And pointing out he's doing so without having a single weapon on him. Tennant was great at that.

“Don't play games with me. You just killed someone I liked. That is not a safe place to stand. I'm the Doctor! You're in the biggest library in the universe. Look me up.”

[-] Shhalahr@beehaw.org 2 points 11 months ago

Oh, yeah, can't forget him.

In games I run, mimics hate being covered in alcohol because it dissolves their sticky goo stuff, but can still be bribed with beer because it makes them feel great.

There isn't a single word of this post I don't like

Hypothetically, could a mimick turn into the beer, get drank by the barbarian, and then turn into a giant causing the barbarian to explode?

[-] sirblastalot@ttrpg.network 30 points 11 months ago

In 3.5 at least, if you're in a space that isn't big enough for you to change size, RAW you just...don't.

[-] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 10 points 11 months ago

You don't have to change size to become something of the same size that is razor sharp and next to some very unarmored innards.

[-] TwilightVulpine@kbin.social 12 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Good thing Barbarians got unarmored defense and proficiency at Constitution saving throws. Chances are the whole mimic just gets digested like a snack.

If the mimic wanted to be clever maybe they should have targeted the rogue or something.

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Now I’m picturing a barbarian eating razor blades as an intimidation technique

[-] sirblastalot@ttrpg.network 3 points 11 months ago

In 3.5 you can attack unarmed or with a light weapon when you're swallowed whole, and I'd say that qualifies. But it's not an instant-kill.

[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 16 points 11 months ago

Extra points for waiting until at least the kidney to do it.

[-] Infynis@midwest.social 24 points 11 months ago

"I'm not stuck to you. You're stuck to me."

[-] cerement@slrpnk.net 22 points 11 months ago

drunk mimic …

[-] IronKrill@lemmy.ca 13 points 11 months ago

Why is every n two pixels higher than other letters and why is the line spacing overlapping I am uncomfortable

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 12 points 11 months ago

You pass the perception check and spot the mimic.

Buy a DVD or do a steal

[-] feedum_sneedson@lemmy.world -2 points 11 months ago

Not an intimidating man, really.

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

In that role he was absolutely terrifying.

[-] nxdefiant@startrek.website 9 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

In the show he was a sociopath with mind control powers, which if you know what he's capable of (as JJ did), could be fairly intimidating.

David Tennant, not so much 😆 (Although he was terrific in that role)

[-] leftzero@lemmynsfw.com 8 points 11 months ago

Kilgrave was indeed something else (I'd say that Tennant managed to make him significantly more intimidating than the original), but he's also absolutely terrifying as the Doctor, when he stops trying not to be. And as someone else pointed out Good Omens' Crowley can be pretty intimidating when he wants to.

Tennant is actually very good at playing intimidating characters.

[-] nxdefiant@startrek.website 4 points 11 months ago

Oh absolutely! That guy does 'barely contained psycho' incredibly well!
