“People in Gaza risk dying of hunger just miles from trucks filled with food,” said WFP head Cindy McCain. “Every hour lost puts countless lives at risk. We can keep famine at bay but only if we can deliver sufficient supplies and have safe access to everyone in need, wherever they are.”

no you don't get it, it can be because they still have people alive

[-] crackgammon@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

Also they sent a couple of official internal memos telling their soldiers to plz not genocide (lost among the flurry of not-to-be-taken-seriously official calls for genocide) so that proves they're totally not genociding. Also, something something this court has no authority.

Checkmate.

And they're in English for international consumption

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

That's been the most hilarious part to me. An Army that operates in Hebrew doing "leaked" memos in English. And somehow people can't see that for what it is.

"They're having babies! No genocide!" - bad faith debate club rejects

It doesn't help that Gaza had been under an official blockade since 2007 and an unofficial blockade long before that.

They didn't have a lot of food and supplies to begin with, now that's all bombed out.

[-] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 40 points 10 months ago

The Israelis called the food restriction of millions of Palestinians "putting them on a diet"

They are sociopaths.

They are genocidal.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Israel’s war in Gaza has brought famine with “such incredible speed,” the United Nations’ emergency relief chief told CNN on Monday, as he warned that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are starving in the besieged enclave.

Griffiths told CNN Monday that work to provide humanitarian aid to 300,000 Gazans who remain in the north of the strip continues to be a challenge.

That campaign began after the October 7 murder and kidnapping rampage by Hamas gunmen that saw some 1,200 people killed in Israel and more than 240 taken hostage, more than 130 of whom are still in captivity, alive or dead.

As winds, heavy rains and cooler temperatures descend on Gaza from November to February, aid workers and civilians trying to survive persistent bombardment told CNN they face harsh living conditions, insufficient access to warm clothing, and outbreaks of disease in overcrowded makeshift shelters.

The IPC said it is the highest share of people facing high levels of acute food insecurity the initiative has ever classified for any given area or country.

Phillipe Lazzarini, Commissioner General for the UN’s Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA), said “commercial supplies are a must to allow the markets and private sector to re-open and provide an alternative to food accessibility.”

Good thing Genocide Joe is trying to remove the blockade of goods... On the red Sea so israel can receive more weapons.

[-] dangblingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 10 months ago

"Genocide Joe" said the right wing astroturfer. Yes, we know he supports Israel. Every single POTUS since 1948 has supported Israel. Can we move on please? Trump is not your friend.

[-] Amaltheamannen@lemmy.ml 4 points 10 months ago

The person didn't even mention Trump. You act like criticizing Joe Biden for supporting an actual genocide makes you a troll. What lind of brain dead argument is that. Joe Biden shouldn't be immune to criticism if he does something terrible.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

The weird part for me is that it's not like Israel NEEDS more weapons. They had all they needed before 10/7.

The only reason we're supporting them is because Joe can't lose the campaign donations. That's really what it boils down to.

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

It was a lot of tank shells and mortar rounds. The tank shells make sense if you hear how they use their tanks in Gaza. They just fire at every building and suspicious rock they see.

Tank shells are a lot cheaper and faster destruction wise than plane bombings. Same for mortars, dumb cheap weapons useful for just destroying buildings.

And likely some stockpiling because Netanyahu has been trying to start a war with Lebanon for a while now and if he manages to escalate it that far then israel will need a hell of a lot more than just their current reserves.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

Pretty sure Bibi's been pissed about Lebanon ever since their last illegal occupation was kicked out, that doesn't surprise me at all.

The fact that Trump wants to do the same thing to Mexico should horrify everyone.

Can't have any contingency plans with that guy around. He sees them as opportunities, not something to be kept in reserve.

Yes? They've been pushing for "pauses" (can't call it a cease fire, too unpopular I guess) in fighting and to get through Israel's blockade to get more humanitarian relief to Gaza for months now. You could argue not forcefully enough (I would, though who knows what goes on privately in diplomatic negotiations), but blaming Biden for the blockade is just misinformation.

https://www.usaid.gov/news-information/press-releases/nov-24-2023-humanitarian-pause-gaza

Prior to any of this Biden restored funding for Palestinians that had been cut by Trump.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/apr/08/joe-biden-restores-us-aid-palestinians-donald-trump

The United States has contributed at least an additional $121 million in funding and humanitarian supplies since October. Probably much more in actuality since many of the UN relief agencies with boots on the ground are heavily funded by the US.

https://www.usaid.gov/news-information/press-releases/dec-05-2023-united-states-announces-additional-humanitarian-assistance-palestinian-people

Attack the US all you want on continuing to allow weapon sales to Israelis and other misdeeds, but you don't need go over the top and start introducing misinformation as well. There's enough they do wrong to attack them on without making up new stuff as well.

And your US defending the red sea to get more weapons to Israel doesn't even make sense. Weapons from the US and Europe have a much more direct path than going all the way around the cape of good hope and then the horn of Africa. If you need a more real politik reason besides the obvious ones like the US doesn't like threats to the global economy, a more likely reason would be the houthis targeting all oil freighters except Russia's, oil that will become more valuable if other sources are shut down and help fund the war against Ukraine.

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world -2 points 10 months ago

Your claims are completely false. America is doing absolutely nothing except give israel more weapons.

https://www.btselem.org/gaza_strip/20240108_israel_is_starving_gaza

For example, almost all goods enter through Rafah Crossing, a passenger crossing that is not equipped for massive commercial transports, limiting the number of truckloads getting through and creating a bottleneck.Although Israel recently allowed trucks in through Kerem Shalom Crossing, too, which is designed for commercial transports, this was merely a token addition that has failed to alleviate the hardship. Additionally, Israel forces aid organizations to purchase food from Egypt and prevents them from buying it in Israel, which would allow for a more efficient and rapid transfer of goods. Israel also prohibits the private sector in Gaza from purchasing food, which could significantly increase supply.

Aid organizations are struggling to operate under current conditions, and most of the limited aid allowed in remains in Rafah instead of reaching residents throughout the Strip. Martin Griffiths, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, listed several reasons why aid cannot be efficiently distributed. Among other things, he noted that trucks are inspected several times before Israel allows them into Gaza, and even then, long lines form due to the conditions at Rafah Crossing. The little food that does get in is very difficult to distribute due to the constant bombings, destroyed roads, frequent communication blackouts, and shelters overflowing with of hundreds of thousands of IDPs crowding into smaller and smaller areas.

Israel can, if it so chooses, change this reality. The images of children begging for food, people waiting in long lines for paltry handouts and hungry residents charging at aid trucks are already inconceivable.

You didn't read my comment did you? Because nothing you posted disproves what was in my comment or argues against it in anyway. My comment was about the United States' actions and all you've posted about is what Israel is doing, which I'm not in disagreement with you on. I just disagree with your bizarre assertion that the Biden amdin is somehow responsible for Israel's blockades in aid, when in actuality they've been publically urging Israel to allow additional aid through for months. And prior to the war even beginning, the Biden admin restored Palestinian aid that had previously been stripped by Trump. And everything I wrote in my comment is clearly sourced and proveable regardless. But yeah not commenting again, since you couldn't be bothered to even read the comment, or did but jusy decided to talk past it. Plenty to criticize America or Biden over without making up lies too.

Your comment contains irrelevant quotes from the people that claimed that they saw evidence of 40 beheaded babies.

Oh look it's an article about how the Biden admin imposed a blockade on Palestine! Wait, it's not, because that never happened, if anything it's quite the opposite, and you lied or misspoke and just won't own up to it. So you are changing the subject to something else, again. I'm done.
