@LineNoise jesus christ. How many more women have to die because of bigoted, useless cops?
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Body-worn-camera footage of former NT Police constable Zachary Rolfe has been shown to the coronial inquest into the death of a high-profile anti-violence campaigner, with his interactions criticised as "inappropriate" at times.
The Northern Territory coroner on Monday opened the fourth and final coronial inquest in a series examining domestic and family violence in the NT, with this week's focusing on the death of Ms Rubuntja.
Despite her tireless work in fighting for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence — which included travelling to Canberra to highlight the issue on a national level — the coroner heard Ms Rubuntja was herself silently suffering at home, and felt unable to tell her friends and colleagues that Abbott was violent.
The footage was the only body-worn camera video played to the court on Monday afternoon and showed Mr Rolfe and a colleague responding to a triple-0 call made by Ms Rubuntja, reporting that Abbott had threatened self-harm.
Superintendent Engels told the court it was now recognised that domestic violence perpetrators could present themselves as calm and controlled in an effort to shift police focus, but agreed that training delivered to officers during and prior to 2019 would not have been that complex.
Loved ones of Ms Rubuntja and members of Abbott's family watched the proceedings from within the courtroom as well as at two separate remote sites, where live streams of the inquest were set up and Arrente and Pitjantjatjara interpreters assisted non-English speakers to follow the evidence.
