A spokesperson from the Israeli Embassy said, “no embassy staff were injured and are safe.”

Um... okay. That tends to be the case with self immolation.

...and tone deafness.

Not really no, people get injured trying to save the person or when the person spreads the fire

MPD said it is working with the Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate the incident.

Seems like a lot of muscle for a self immolation case lol

Lol , as non American I didn't know about this bureau including alcohol and tobacco.

What an interesting mix of stuff. I mean I had heard of the ATF, but usually related with explosives and firearms which are two things that make sense to be together in a bureau, but I didn't know and didn't bother to check what the letters in the name came from.

"The nicest thing you can say about the ATF is that it's an unserious and unaccountable bureaucracy. Often it's explicitly contemptible, such as during the Fast-and-Furious gun-walking scandal, and it's setting up mentally disabled youths to take the fall during gun-and-drug stings. After those abuses of individual rights and public trust, the failings of the National Disposal Branch almost pale by comparison ... the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives should be abolished, and its employees sent into the world to seek honest jobs in the private sector, if anybody will have them."
