My son is obsessed with Mario LEGO and had his own little table in the corner of the LEGO room. It was overflowing and my wife hated how messy it looked. While she was away for a few days I made this.

Two partial sheets of 3/4" birch plywood with French cleats attached, painted white, were mounted on the walls. Then the desk just slots into the second-lowest cleat, using the bottom cleat as support.

As he grows we can raise the desk a couple times, eventually bringing it up to 29" from the ground which is about regular desk height.

I also made a few shelves and a box for him to organize with out of the plywood scrap.

He likes that he can rearrange his storage as he pleases. I made a couple more medium-sized shelves that aren't pictured, and I may someday make a corner triangular shelf for Bowser to sit on.

What’s the weight limit on the edge of those shelves?

I’ve always wanted a floating desk/shelf for my pc setup, but I’m not sure it would be stable enough. (Not a wood worker, just a guy with a dream.)

I honestly don't know. He can stand on it without issue, but he's only 40 pounds. If I were to make this for an adult I'd need to do more math and some tests. My conservative estimate would be 50 pounds at the very edge. It got a little creaky at that point so I stopped testing it.

A floating desk for a gaming rig is definitely possible. I hope you end up doing it and showing us the results.

I'm jealous of that kid.

Very cool. Make sure to round off those sharp corners.

I rounded them just enough that it's not going to hurt your hands, but I'm tempted to go further in case he runs into it. Since these just lift off the wall without needing to unscrew anything it'd be pretty easy. The toughest part would be repainting and finishing. I'm also a bit worried about chip-out since I was too lazy to cap the edges of the plywood with hardwood.

I'd go with clear cabinet bumpers like this until you can come up with some kind of solution:

They're great to have around for my dog, who has been blind all her life. Probably good to keep around for a small child, for when you discover that they grew two inches overnight and their head found a new cabinet to gravitate to.

I slap em all over the place.
