Been into Civ 6 lately. Sometimes I kind of have to go like "ok, this is a strategy game and that's what I'm treating it as" because the way they portray civilization can be a bit... I think maybe colonial-centric is the phrasing I'm looking for. I feel it's very in need of a win condition that comes from deep alliances and not just faux forced diplomacy "only one person can be the winner" kind of thing. But if I treat it as a competitive strategy game with a civilization-based outfit on and don't take the cultural influences too seriously, it's fun enough and has a lot of depth to it for improving at the strategic elements over time. So I can really sink a lot of hours into it, if I let myself.

Not a place for gamer gate talk or other reactionary behavior. TERFs and incels get the wall.

I guess that's what counts in the end!
I have been summoned I see.
Playing Currently:
Stellaris (I just bought the Astral Planes DLC on sale)
FFVII Rebirth
EDIT: Desynced - I forgot I was playing this one, hah. Scifi factory builder with modular buildings and programmable unit behaviours.
Favourite Genres:
Factory Games
City/Colony Builders
RPGs (MMOs or JRPGs mostly)
Completed Recently:
I just finished my latest Rimworld run, where I did a Neolithic/Tribal to Spacer tech run. Rimworld is my favourite game ever made, I do runs through it very regularly, but wanted to finish up my current game before the latest DLC hits in a month or so.
I have at least a thousand hours in Rimworld and I can't imagine that pace slowing down a whole lot. The funny thing is I actually hated it the first couple times I tried to get into it, before something just clicked.
I’ve been playing quasimorph, mtg arena, and dragons dogma dark arisen (late to the party there).
My favorite Ludo-hauntology is if Dragon Age had more than one good game in the series, origins alone is my favorite series. I also have discovered the Like A Dragon series and appreciate the compassionate way it portrays working class, un-housed peoples, and everyone else on the periphery of society.
The last game I finished I was BG3, it was awesome how reactive it is.
Hauntology?
What's that?
I know what "ludo" means (video games or games in general). Not sure what hauntology is but I've heard the term. I'll look it up but I also want to know what it is in your own words, comrade.
It’s from Derrida. It’s basically a past vision of the future that never came to pass which we now can look backwards at with familiarity for yet it continues to haunt the culture.
Nice!
Also, nice username. ;)
Been playing a lot of Black Ops 2 Zombies w my friends and brother lately, mostly the map with the lava all around. Other than that on my free time I play a lot of GTA 4. I fucking love GTA 4, I could spend hours talking about it and all the little tricks and exploits that aren’t as obvious in game
You mean the lava map with the car and everything?
I forget which one, but it has lava everywhere and Pack-a-punch is in the first stage/starting area of the zombies map
I was considering making a thread about it, but I made a minecraft 1.7.10 modpack awhile ago and wanted to post it here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqIwFSfZlFJbkTiNsCJvLyTWzOYh
It's a hardcore pack that takes a lot of the mechanics of the base game and completely redoes them. Here are a few of the changes
- Sprinting speed is now the default. Sprinting now doubles your speed (where before it only increased by 15%)
- Better movement. Use LeftALT to grab ledges, crawl on the ground. Hold shift to charge a super jump
- Damage Invulnerability is completely disabled, both you and the enemies can attack you as fast as they want (careful of lava!!)
- More enjoyable early game. Wood tools were replaced with stone tools, and stone tools were replaced with flint tools
- Lowered mob spawn rate by A LOT but increased the mob cap by a lot as well. Non-zombies spawn 4x slower than base rate
- Optionally disable hunger mechanics, reverting to Alpha where food gives you hearts directly. This is on a per-player basis.
- Zombies are faster (to match your increased speed), spiders have 75% damage reduction and more health (bring bane of arthropods!)
- Enchanting is removed completely. Now you can craft enchanted books, and some crafting recipes will apply enchantments automatically
- Science theming on mods with a touch of magic. Build a realistic electrical grid to power chemical fusion then go to space
- Meticulously balanced economy. Zombies drop money which can be used to buy materials through Universal Value (EMC)
- Anti-kitchen sink design. Every mod inclusion had a lot of thought put into how it would affect the experience.
- Anti-grind design. Yes you CAN grind if you want, but if you hate doing things over and over again, there's always a better way.
- Long-term gameplay in mind. Designed to be played for years, unlike other packs that quickly get stale after you beat them.
- New additions periodically added. For example, a recent change brings the 3x3 crafting table into your inventory
Recently picked up Borderlands 3 and am LOVING it. In my search for info, I’ve seen threads from release about how terrible it is. I have NO idea what those people are talking about, maybe it’s fixed now. But the game is GREAT!
My biggest criticism of the game is pointed toward the story. It can be a little cringe (that’s common Borderlands) and the villains aren’t as well written as Handsome Jack. But I enjoyed the way they made fun of streamers and chatters and the like, it was a good time with cheap laughs.
Favorite genres: RPG, looter shooter, puzzle, sim, action adventure, action sports
I'm trying to play a lot of stuff at the same time to see if the constant shifting keeps me interested in all I'm trying.
What video games have you played recently?
- Recently I started my second playthrough of Sekiro, I first played and finished it when it launched I think.
- I'm in the middle of my first Hollow Knight playthrough and this game is fucking amazing.
- I recently started a new Elden Ring character too, she is named ComradeTarnished and I don't know exactly what build I want, but I want to try a shotel with parry and a hammer on the right hand, it probably won't work well so I'll most likely end up trying a Grave Scythe blood build, this is probably gonna be the character I do the DLC with when it launches, but I don't know if I wanna do it in NG or NG+1.
- Yesterday I started Lies of P for the first time too, and while I'm still getting used to the movement, this game seems to be really good, at least on first impression, I hope it lives up to the hype surrounding it, I'm having fun so far.
- Today I tried an hour or so of the Archthrones mod beta for Dark Souls 3, I picked the starting class with a bandage in the head that looks sick as fuck. Besides a few things it's really cool, can't wait to finish the demo.
What are your favorite video game genres?
I think my answer above shows that its Souls/Souls-like lmao.
What game have you completed recently and what are your thoughts on it?
Haven't finished a game in months sadly, the last one I did was Katana Zero, but it was like my 7th or 8th run. Still great tho, I gotta get around to finish getting all the achievements, there's only two left.
it was like my 7th or 8th run.
Impressive.
Also, "ComradeTarnished," nice.
Impressive.
Thanks! I realized I phrased it a little weird, I didn't mean run like in a roguelike because it is not that, but meant that I finished the game 7 or 8 times now lol. If you like short fast-paced sidescrollers with outrun themes and a perfect soundtrack I highly recommend it, it's a literal gem. Also, the later plot points are inspired by the Vietnam war.
Also, “ComradeTarnished,” nice.
The shotel and hammer I mentioned is supposed to mimic the hammer and sickle, I hope the build works out lol.
It works. Hamsics generally change between communist party or communist group depending on the country.
I only played the demo for the new Princess Peach game. Will emulate/10
I just beat Pacific Drive earlier tonight. Cool game with a really fun and addictive gameplay loop. Love the creepy vibe of the game, the music, researching and crafting new parts to put on your station wagon, the rush of trying to beat the instability as it closes in around you, the eerie feeling you're being watched when you walk around the zone outside your car, the weird quirks your car develops as it takes damage, all of it kicks ass.
Although now I'm glad I can finally put more time into FF7 Rebirth and eventually Dragon's Dogma 2 when it comes out. No idea how I'm gonna find enough time to play them though. Edit: I forgot I've been playing Helldivers 2 with my friends, too. I feel like it's one of the few games to get "live service" right in that they focused on making a good game with fun content first and the live service elements came second. Those elements are barely even noticeable too, which is nice.
Oho, Pacific Drive is the one everyone seems to be talking about nowadays.
And yeah, I plan to play Dragon's Dogma 2.
I’m currently finishing my second playthrough of God of War Ragnarök. I remember getting the game for ps4 on my 16th birthday, and playing it all week bc I was sick. 9/10 if not 10/10 game imo. I plan to continue playing the Valhalla dlc at some point in the near future, and I have recently finished Subnautica.
I finished up the Link's Awakening remake, this week. Was playing it in tandem with my 8-year-old. I hadn't played it in like 2 weeks because I couldn't figure out the gimmick for the second-to-last phase of the final boss, so I figured I'd wait for my son to catch up. The kicker is that HE actually figured it out, before I did. So proud...
Also been slowly working through on Horizon: Zero Dawn, but I keep finding I have 0 desire to play it. Nothing significantly wrong with it, but I have yet to feel actually engaged, 21 hours in.
21 hours in is "not feeling engaged"? It took me less to finish Mafia 2 main story!
Mainly I just play my Genshin/Honkai Star Rail/Reverse 1999 dailies. Between the 3 (auto-battle modes for HSR/Rev1999 are a timesaver) I guess I haven't played much else in a while- My Time at Sandrock and some For the King 2 last month, I guess.
For fave video game genres- farming sims (think Stardew Valley), sandbox games and soulslikes/monster-hunter-likes, though I play anything. My favorite series is definitely Monster Hunter.
As for the game I completed most recently... probably Remnant 2 last year... my thoughts are I recommend it, though I probably won't play it again till the next expansion whenever that is.
Frankly, I could play Genshin Impact all day but got distracted by another game that I had FOMO about and then I... never came back to it.
But I want to get back to it, don't get me wrong.
Relatable, honestly FOMO (whether in Genshin or elsewhere) is a pain to deal with. Most of the Genshin experience will stick around for when you return no doubt, though- at least that's the pleasant thing about it being mostly single player (even if live service/gacha/etc).
Yeah, plus, not just FOMO.
Just keeping up with what's in vogue, you know? Having conversation-starters and what-not.
Or maybe that's also apart of FOMO?
Idk.
Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, Pokémon emerald, and sonic the hedgehog 1. I’m stuck on marble zone act 3, I keep falling in the fucking lava, I miss a jump and I fall three levels down, it’s so hard for what 😭 I want to beat the original sonic games before playing frontiers.
You're being Anakin'd, dammit.
