😉Powerful explosions were heard in the city of Engels, Saratov Region. Locals say that before that they heard the roar of engines.

I was thinking Engels doesn't sound Russian or Ukrainian, so is the war spreading to Germany?

Then I remembered "Marx and Engels" and probably somewhere in Russia...

Yep, near Saratov, around 700km south-east from Moscow.

Engels is indeed German, it means something like "of the angel" (angel in genitive singular case). But it's a name so translations are of limited use.

The airbase is named after the famous author, Friedrich Engels, who worked closely with Karl Marx.
