$$$

I dunno who the hell is still playing it but apparently COD still sells like crazy. Activision has always milked their cash cows to death and let everything else just rot.

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Because COD whales will spend $80 on skins while Tony Hawk fans expect a playable game.

[–] n3m37h@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Tony Hawk 5 does not exist

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

According to the IRS neither does my uncle

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 19 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Ok but hear me out.

Tony Hawk Pro skater mixed with call of duty

Which is from a studio that also just got closed down

Oh shit I hadn't realised that was Private Division. The gaming market seems to only get more depressing these days

It wasn't it was by the devs of olli olli which was Roller7.

[–] DebatableRaccoon@lemmy.ca 4 points 11 months ago

Are they not a dev team within PD? I know PD published and they're who I recently heard shut down.

That sounds like a Fortnite map with a better soundtrack, because we all know that was half the reason anyone played Tony Hawk. It was a good game, but that playlist...

I really wish this didn't come as a surprise. We really need more TH, not the oversaturated crap that is CoD and the plethora of shooters

I'd recommend Session or even SkaterXL, if you're wanting a badass skating game. They're like the Skate (1, 2, and 3) games, except on steroids. One stick controls one foot, and the other stick controls the other foot and you have to flick them all in different directions to do tricks and such. You can customize the gameplay to be as simple or as hardcore as you want, and there's a nice barebones story (at least for Session) to string you along and teach you harder tricks and rest your skill. You also unlock new customization options, which I'll say each tiny little adjust to your deck can actually make a difference during gameplay. You can tighten or loosen each truck individually as much as you want, change each individual wheel, change the hardness of the wheels so they grip more; there are even truck risers and deck rails you can put on there.

Thanks for the recommendations but it's the arcade style of TH that I'm after rather than a skating sim. Plus the humour of the Underground and American Wastelamd games was simple but enjoyable for me.

I remember Bam freaking out about the tanks in the Moscow level, but that's about it

It really is the darkest timeline.

After years of observation I have determined Activision is a propaganda machine designed to keep republican kids hooked on guns and war and keep them aggressive.

Just look at the streamers who play and the fan base and the results when it comes to politics.

It’s literally a club of wannabes who emulate their favorite streamers.

It’s just a bunch of kids without dads.

[–] BruceTwarzen@kbin.social 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Eh depends. When covid hit, my friends convinced me to play warzone, and i haven't touched any call of duty game since modern warfare 2. I watched random streamers, because i had no idea what i was doing and what was going on. Streamers from the uk were like: i'm here with my friends playing some warzone and get some cheeky snipes. And american stremers were like: TODAY ME AND THE COOL SQUAD IS RAPING SOME KIDS WHO SUCK AT WARZONE… While calling everyone a cheater and stream sniper. I know this is very generalizing and unfair, but it's badically the same with gordon ramsey, the joke is that he's mean and loud, and he is, on american tv.

[–] VaultBoyNewVegas@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Off topic probably but I binged kitchen nightmares us and UK as well as hell on wheels last month and Gordon Ramsay isn't mean, he actually tries to help those places but more often than not the owners and the rest of the staff just couldn't give a fuck. When you've dangerous food safety practices that put people at risk, you don't deserve to be treated with kid gloves.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The Amy's Baking Company episode is still probably the best thing he's ever done. It's a rollercoaster from start to finish, and it shows each aspect of Gordon and why he does what he does.

[–] VaultBoyNewVegas@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

The fact that it is the only episode where he actually walked out is evidence that he was genuinely trying to help. People who think he's mean should watch his food magazine shows like the f word or MasterChef. He wants to see people succeed but he won't tolerate bullshit.

I’d like to interject for a moment. When you say Activision what you really mean is Activision/Blizzard or as I’ve taken to calling it Activision + Blizzard which is just a small publishing division of the larger Microsoft Games Studios ecosystem

[–] Dasnap@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Activision were properly fucked if people stopped caring about CoD, eh?

I wonder if they'll vary anything up with new owners.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

People still care about Call of Duty? I haven't heard people talk about playing it for years now. But I don't know if that's just my friends or what.

[–] Dasnap@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

One word: Warzone.

The main series also still does well every year.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I want to hate this because Activision sucks ass and CoD is a military recruitment game but my distaste for cashgrab remakes is holding me back.

I know a lot of CoD is like FIFA in that it's the same game every release...I'm just so tired of remakes and the only way I'm giving these big studios money is if they make NEW games.

[–] chetradley@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago (2 children)

While I tend to agree with you on pointless cash grab remakes, THPS 1+2 was the perfect formula for a remake in my opinion. It's a true remake of a 20+ year old game, reasonably priced, and part of a series that was really starved for a good entry. The added mechanics bring a lot to the overall experience, and most importantly, it's a blast to play.

[–] VaultBoyNewVegas@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I thought the remakes were plagued with issues on launch and thus got poor reviews.

[–] chetradley@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

It got good reviews. I don't know about any launch issues, but keep in mind I never played it online and I don't ever buy games day 1, so if they did have issues they were probably worked out by the time I picked it up.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I tried and just couldn't get into it

[–] chetradley@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

No worries, to each their own. I'm just expressing why many people, myself included, are bummed this series is getting shelved again.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I guess I'd just rather a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 6 than a remake for the sake of nostalgia

[–] chetradley@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Judging by how terrible 5 was, I'm ok if they don't.
