I think by far the best thing we can do for the climate is obsess over all the things the previous generations did wrong. This dad saving money for his child's future is obviously an evil moron. Thank god we're so much better than those idiots.

My parents are well off and my dad specifically really takes pride in the fact that my siblings and I will inherit their wealth. He also claims to be concerned with the environment and made a huge deal about us turning off lights when leaving rooms and is adamant that we recycle all the plastic we use.

Explaining that lights use barely any electricity and that our area is powered 100% by renewables does not matter to him. Explaining that most plastic "recycling" ends up in landfills or burned does not matter to him. Explaining to him that EVs are still really fucking bad for the environment and that if he really cared he would take transit/bike does not matter to him.

Idk what my point is other then, in my experience, most ~~boomers~~ people that claim to care, don't give a fuck about protecting the environment if it means making even the smallest sacrifices to their way of life. They want all the satisfaction of being "someone who cares" without actually putting the effort it. Obviously I'm projecting my own experience on to this comic, but these type of people deserve to be ridiculed. Hypocrisy and ignorance aren't going to fix themselves.

Idk, they’ve also been systematically lied to by people they trust. The whole recycling thing was indoctrinated into my generation at school. These things are hard to overcome and our society is built around cars.

This dad exists in a future with not enough oxygen in the air, meaning multiple decades from now

This is, therefore, not about something an actual person has done, but about something people are doing now.

People right now say the state can not invest money into clean energy as our children would bear the dept. This makes it so that future generations will actually have to invest significantly more money to fix problems that could be avoided relatively cheaply

The post is doing the best it can to make it easily understandable that saving money for the sake of saving it is not a solution, hopefully getting more people to share this opponion

I neither see something this post could do better as a metaphor nor the point of your criticism of it

I looked at it more about whats been happening since the 80's with reaganomics where folks want lower taxes and regulation so they can take home 5 dollars more a week and pay 5 dollars a week less on stuff and in return we don't do things in a sustainable manner.

Maybe I'm showing my age here, but I read it more as a critique of people in my own generation - myself included.

Like, that dad isn't evil, he just did the same shit we all do.

If holding the bag of money means you don't need an O2 tank, I guess that's actually pretty decent.
Or maybe the dad is just tired of wearing an O2 tank & mask

I don't think this dad is evil. He's doing something that probably would have helped his son if things didn't turn out to become apocalyptical.
