My lord that is brutal.
Brutal, cruel, sad. Makes me angry at the universe.
Pardon my crude biology knowledge, but I believe it take two to commit adultery. So where's the other?
It takes two people, but only one married person to commit adultery.
Can't say for sure, but probably spared on account of being a man.
Societies, and especially older societies, are often insanely sexist.
Apparently there is little proof that she was in the box for adultery, or condemned to die at all.
More likely she was being transported.

He probably had to pay a fine or something.
Somehow the combination of this post and the name of the community disgusted me. I did think the x-porn communities are a bit weird, but this combination in particular makes me sick.
I took over the community because it was unmoderated but already active, but I'm not a fan of the 'x-porn' name. In any case, this is just a place for historical photographs of interest.
Yeah I got that. I actually closed the thread and then it hit me. I mean I'm a great fan of historical facts and context.
I was rather surprised at my own outrage, as usually I don't, but here it somehow hit me. Not a dig at your person, keep on the good content.
Will she starve or be dehydrated first?
3 minutes without air.
3 days without water.
3 weeks without food.
I think 3 days without water is too low but also heavily depends on your local climate.

So in order of importance, air, shelter, water, food.
In the section about water:
The source of the "3 days" number likely comes from an experiment two scientists did in 1944 where they ate only dry food for a period of time; one ended the experiment at 3 days in, and the other at 4 days in. However since they stopped the experiment before being in any real danger, the actual survival time at room temperature likely exceeds 3-4 days.
The average person could probably still be saved after 5 days without water or more.
If they are real assholes, they'll offer her water in that little bowl every day
the photograph is real, but the story behind it is, as far as we can tell, entirely conjecture on the part of the dude who took the picture. from my understanding, there's reason to believe that this punishment was used the same as stocks in colonial times. they would stick you in there for a period of time so that you could be publicly humiliated and uncomfortable, and then you'd eventually be released. there are stories of Mongolian prisoners having food thrown to them in tiny coffin-like boxes, there's not much reason to believe this is any different
That epic chain, there prob to prevent prisoners from putting their legs out the hole & just run away with it.
I don't think you run away with a wooden box of this dimensions...
