genuinely what the hell are they doing

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 17 points 5 months ago

They've always sucked ass and y'all are weird for putting up with it.

Their UI on Android is absolutely horrible and gets worse with every major update

I'd not insult someone for their lack of education, but you'd think discord is big enough that they'd hire people with at least a rudimentary understanding of graphical literacy

It get worst each update.

No i can't make the category tap shows up, it's permanently blocked by my navigation bar.

[-] Tower@lemm.ee 7 points 5 months ago

Yup, 50/50 crapshoot on whether that works each time I open the app.

[-] Delta_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 5 months ago

That happens every other week on iOS too!

UI/UX designer typically are limited by higher ups thinking they know it better

[-] 6mementomori@lemmy.world 27 points 5 months ago

out of the loop, only using patched clients, what did I miss?

[-] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 38 points 5 months ago

Discord now listen to all the conversation and then if there's a particular topic that's being discussed, the app will notify you about the topic that's discussing right now(or "highlight" of the conversation). I don't know if the "listening" part happened on server-side or client-side though.

[-] asqapro@reddthat.com 47 points 5 months ago

Discord was always listening to all conversations, they’re just utilizing the data they’ve been collecting in a more obvious way now.

[-] Aatube@kbin.melroy.org 21 points 5 months ago

did you seriously think that they never had that data before introducing teh AI?

[-] Technoguyfication@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 months ago

And it’s impossible for server owners to turn it off, even in “private” servers your conversations are constantly being fed into an AI.

[-] Laser@feddit.de 4 points 5 months ago

server owners

The only server owners in Discord are Discord themselves. They just let you use them so they can monetize your data.

[-] blindbunny@lemmy.ml 7 points 5 months ago

Most definitely server side.

[-] AFallingAnvil@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 months ago

What are the best patched clients? Asking for a friend

[-] SqueakyBeaver@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 5 months ago

If Android: Aliucord -based on the Kotlin (old) version Bunny/Pyoncord - The current best (and afaik only maintained) fork of Vendetta. Based on the new versions of discord

If iOS: Enmity - I know nothing about this

Also for your consideration: this list of client mods

[-] 6mementomori@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Tons of people use bluecord on mobile but I say to stay away from that cause sketchy. I would opt for aliucord but if someone knows better clients that would be nice cause aliucord makes me die inside a little. On desktop I use Vencord, I heard some bad stuff about it but I also heard that it's a troll, and I'm skeptical it would be sketchy. Only problem is it tends to stop working and needs repair very often.

Is it about this? It's apparently 7 months old and still experimental, so hopefully it's dead https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/12926016807575-In-Channel-Conversation-Summaries
