Good stuff. I always thought the image was being used in a nefarious way but haven't had time to investigate

Bog standard MXM A. I could have put an Nvidia Quadro T2000 in with a little case modification - cutting away to trim the stumps that hold the card in place - but the M2200 will do for now as it'll allow me to use latest pytorch without manual compilation and fiddling about (I already did spend weeks manually compiling for the K2100 and it was a giant pita as it limits versions of other libraries). The card was about 1/3-1/4 the price of a T2000.

I already have another laptop with an RTX 3060, but thought I may as well upgrade this chunky beast of a laptop as I still use it daily.

It's a shame when specific channels die that sh/would do well. So, let's start posting again in /c/symfony and get some activity going again!

Pulling the laptop apart was uneventful without anything flying across the room or those fiddly small connectors - which I can barely see - snapping, removing and slapping in the new GPU was just six screws and a bit of thermal paste, and when it was all screwed back together, I didn’t even have any screws left over. Switching on and debian detected it happily, nvidia-smi and nvidia-detect were happy, and apt just installed the nvidia-driver without fuss.

Other than a loud snapping noise now made when the laptop is closed and hooks into the catch thing (perhaps it should always have been like this), it was quite dull and boring really.

I haven't kept up with all the news about this, so is there a definitive yes or no answer that Mozilla sells or even shares user information with partners such as Google? Google is paying Mozilla for something.

Bad how? Slow to respond, poor knowledge, or just non-existant ticketing?

[–] 0101100101@programming.dev 1 points 5 days ago

Thanks but they're crappy resellers with very restricted "deals" that aren't realistically useable!

What are you currently working on with laravel?

I'm in the UK and looking to switch over to a UK host provider. Can anyone recommend IONOS for the uk? I'm considering a fairly low-spec VPS. Even with VAT, their prices will be about 3/4 of what I'm currently paying.

He should be missing part of an ear.

Small razor blade cut to the ear. If you know any security personnel, you'll know they're very alert, there's a plan, and it's immediately kicked into force when the slightest thing goes awry. That plan would not be stand around looking confused protecting his body but exposing his head for photo opportunities after an alleged attempt at a head shot. That was very clearly staged.

Can anyone recommend decent UK hosting, VPS. 2 GB RAM, single core will be fine 30+GB storage, and PCI-DSS compliant for future business needs. Free backups would be a bonus!

Yep, purchased cheaply on ebay and resold.

I don't remember the last time I had to press a number key and the enter key at the same time. I can't remember the last time I had to press a number key and ctrl at the same time, so obviously by your logic, that's two more keys that do not need to be on the keyboard!

[–] 0101100101@programming.dev 2 points 1 week ago

I bought a little macro keyboard, but if I had the physical keys already, I'd be using them as macro keys!

It's flat, it's going to be far inferior to the kinesis advantage.

But some f key shorcuts already need ctrl + alt/shift pressing so you don't have many options for switching to a different layer.

Dude, that's why I want an IBM Model F! F for tons of function keys obviously!

Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it looks weird, yes they've spent millions on researching optimum keyboard layout to reduce RSI, but my goodness, once you get over the 'eugh' of using it from muscle memory, I can guarantee it will be worth the cost. I love mine and there's a huge hacker community for it who modify it further.

Undoubtedly, programmers are a major user of keyboards, and IDE developers love function keys for esoteric shortcuts for debugging, moving around, and running code. So why do so many split keyboards not actually have the function keys.

I think makers are missing out a huge audience.

What are the regular things you tend to buy from aliexpress? Or maybe you haven't started yet and are thinking about your first purchase?

So I have an aging DellM4800 15.6" laptop. It's actually built to last, upgradeable MXM A GPU, replaceable battery, professional keyboard, good build quality, easy to get to parts, and has a great matt screen. I use it as a portable laptop, rather than a mobile desktop unit.

Still, Somehow the hinge on one side has become warped. I have no clear idea but suspect that from where it used to be on my lap, the rear fans blew its heat onto it. Or maybe it took a knock somewhere. This would be quite a knock.

Anyway, the plastic cracked and broke off due to the warped metal, and the one side feels a bit, loose and wobbly. It opens fine-ish and just makes a clicking sound each time its opened.

Are there usually generic metal hinges for laptop screens or are they unique to each device? I don't particularly want to have to buy a whole new screen or worse, a new case just for hinges for one side. The missing plastic is small and I can deal with it, but would like to get this one side feeling as solid as the rest of the case.

It got 100,000 signatures in its first 11 days. I know quite a few of people on the fediverse are fed up of seeing bot posts about violence against musk cars to distract people from the real problems, so do something that will make a change. But you'll also need to help others who feel the same and who aren't around here.

The first time around, there were millions of signatures on the petition so you'll need to help spread the word about the website. Tell your neighbourhood, your friends and family, work colleagues, and if you're out and hear people moaning, tell them about it.

Maybe someone can make a separate post to brainstorm ideas? The instance I'm currently on has very few political channels, so maybe you can re-post this elsewhere.

It's awesome and I think most of you are going to appreciate it! Fallout 1+. You can choose just one radio station or mix them all together!
