Both fantastic beasts and crushed child do more harm than good to the original franchise

I really liked the first FB movie, it captured the whimsical charm of the intial 3 HP movies and books quite authentically. I could go on and on on how the next film changes the tone, breaks established canon, and generally feels like a cobbled together mess of story beats hastily Scribbled on sticky notes(didn't anyone proofread the thing?) So for me it ends with newt Scamander helping to apprehend grindelwald and the rest of the story is implied in the main HP books.

Cursed child doesn't exist, what are you talking about?

Like soft clay, you can turn into someone, but as soon as someone else shakes your hand, it easily deforms

classic first worlder with their elevated standard of living:

  • Animal based protein is often cheaper and more easily accessible
  • herbivores as a middle step helps digest frankly indigestible plants

I am not disagreeing with you there is a fine line between acceptable and gluttonous, but acting holier than though, just cause you insistently chew grass and destroy your gut biome doesn't help the animals

Valid but counter point, popular vote is always easily influenceable, leading to counter productive results, and sometimes leads to psuedodemocracy which is authoritarian in all but name.

There is no good autocracy and no perfect democracy, but you cannot discredit both.

Short bursts of autocracy when necessary and done right(altruistic leader with accountability who steps down) leads to a lasting democracy

I don't remember installing it, everything about it seems "legitimate" grepping through the logs the installation date seems to be 21st January. There was always some slow down when I initially started firefox and today I had HTOP open just to see what was happening and Clamav and ClamAV freshclam process was there. How do I check if it is compromised or which user if any installed it?

SSH is disabled.

So if Mozilla wants to monetize location data, what does this mean for all the custom ROMs that use Mozilla's location provider instead of Google's?

Nothing, because they dont sell location data, this just seems like a routine warning that pops up when ToS and Privacy policy changes, and since they have clarified their position on this matter, (not to mention the lack of alternative FOSS web engines). We really shouldn't let this bother us

Of course i might be wrong and it may come out that Mozilla has turned heel(lot of heel turning happening lately)

My high school chem teacher, while explaining soap micelles, went on a tangent saying that we don't really need soap to wash ourselves and that he personally never used soap while bathing, I liked that teacher but TMI and gross.

This is from a fresh boot of the system, except sshd I have not started anything else. ram consumption used to be just 126-200 mb now it has jumped so significantly that I am concerned I might have unnecessarily bloated my system:

I intend to use the system as a local server with an optional fully featured WM(Hyprland which is installed, but this screenshot was taken before it was loaded) for occasional use.

Ram conservation is a top priority and I would like to know if such a big jump in usage is normal or are there is something wrong with my system config

Solved: thanks to u/dbkblk@lemmy.world; remember to add these USE flags to wpa_supplicant

net-wireless/wpa_supplicant wps wep ap fasteap eap-sim tkip uncommon-eap-types

I am facing this peculiar issue that i can connect to every WiFi connection except my router, it's a recent gentoo install with no display server, i am using a D-link WiFi USB card

What I have tried:

  • using iw dev (device) scan to list the ssid and try connecting with wpa_supplicant
    • dhcpcd waits for connection then times out (does connect succesfully to my phones hotspot)
  • gave up and spent 3 hours compiling NetworkManager
    • every ssid shows up in nmcli dev wifi list except my router
    • forcing a connection passing bssid shows id not found
    • manually setting the connection using nmcli add also does not work
    • iw dev (device) scan lists my routers ssid along with others
    • nothing is blocked in NetworkManager and I spent hours going back and forth with chatgpt trying to force a connection to no avail
  • tried changing router setting(including changing broadcasting channels verifying, black lists etc)

What i have ruled out

  • its not the dlink wifi card or the laptop, I can connect to my router just fine using nmcli in a live fedora instance on the same laptop

I have tried every conceivable thing and I cant find what the issue is, it's like my router and Gentoo have some bad blood between them

The card in question: Thames [Radeon HD 7550M/7570M/7650M] (Radeon HD 7570M) I am starting to face mounting issues as a lot of modern software have started to abandon OpenGL in favor of Vulkan, and if its possible, I just want to try for the learning opportunity

I have been facing this issue since yesterday, but basically at some point the system becomes insanely slow, and the restart and shutdown options disappear from the menu, tty3-7 dont work, it freezes at the shutdown -now command(at which point I just manually cut the power(bad Idea I know)),

but today I stuck around as my system got insanely borked, eventually freezing up and giving me the screen above. the problem shows up after I wake it up from suspend but not always: My system specs:

OS: Fedora Linux 41 (Workstation Edition) x86_64

here are the journalctl entries that I think are relevant

entries for events 40 min before that.

and this is from when it happened earlier in the day

Just a thought I had, like what can a ten year old do(besides mass murder & accidents) that messes up their life so badly that it is unrecoverable?

It has to be something that is self inflicted and not something that is the cause of others around them.

I for one am going through quite a culture shock. I always assumed the nature of FOSS software made it immune to be confined within the policies of nations; I guess if one day the government of USA starts to think that its a security concers for china to use and contribute to core opensource software created by its citizens or based in their boundaries, they might strongarm FOSS communities and projects to make their software exclude them in someway or worse declare GPL software a threat to national security.
