That one is about Chris Sawyer. He'll remind people that there was a bit of C in there, but 99% x86 assembly / machine code in his words.

This was mostly pre internet and he's just never addressed it making it a non story. He claimed he had amnesia and couldn't remember the accident which definitely at least feels like it adds evidence to the drunk driving claims... But, nothing ever came of it.

He was driving with Jennifer grey, she's talked about it a bit and is obviously still traumatized, but she still backs up the 'he was sober' story that they managed to sell at the time.

I'd be really curious to hear your thoughts after watching the secret life of Walter Mitty.

Matthew Broderick.

He's an alright actor, but seeing him always reminds me of that time he got drunk (rumored) and killed two people with his car in Ireland but faced almost zero repercussions (he got a small fine).

Barely maybe, the fan would still be right up against a solid wall. There are projects out there to add cooling fans to network cards that would fit in that area. It's just rough, airflow wise.

It is, the main fan for the whole machine is the one on the right and these machines rely on very little clearance for the fan to work. The slot the GPU is using would usually be expected to be used for a network card. The case itself has no holes/etc for airflow by default there for most models. There's a lot of interesting mods for these cases, usually a bit fancier, but this works.

Temps on these change drastically with the case off.

Id personally be more scared of the chimp. The gorilla is mostly a peaceful animal.

You are right that they are effectively limited use GPUs, but that doesn't make them useless. That's really the point, I'd agree it is a weird fit for laptops though.

My personal interest is object detection / facial recognition which is a function a lot of AIs have, but you may or may not classify it as 'Generative AI' on it's own.

It depends on how broad you are with the definition. There are a lot of uses for an NPU that aren't hosting your own chatgpt analog.

If every Lemmy user donated $1...

You still wouldn't have enough, but you'd be close.

Not wrong, but on the other hand, two of the Guinness verified longest living cats were said to drink a small bit of coffee with cream regularly.

Both were owned by the same guy and a 38 year old cat is a bit controversial, but: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creme_Puff_(cat)

Worst part is, those are usually the best ones.
