The last couple of years the earwigs have been terrible. They eat everything and my basil gets eaten down to the stalks. I've tried all kinds of things and nothing seems to work other than keeping the soil dry which only mildly helps. This year I noticed a spider hanging out in my basil plant. It kept getting bigger and my basil grew better than ever! Now I take extra care of my spider buddy!

Oh really? Here I am thinking you just show up to a beach and go to town ๐Ÿ˜†

I've always wanted to try to do something like this but I also have so many questions about the medium. Like is there a special sand/water ratio to get the best structure? Are there special tools you use to sculpt? What do you do about the extra sand you remove? It's all so fascinating!

We bid 10k under asking price because the owner ripped the place up and it needed tons of work. They said they would not accept any offers under asking. We thought about it and decided the house was in the perfect location and made the offer at asking price. They also were not happy about that because this was in 2021 and everything was selling for a ton over asking price. Thing is, those houses you could move into with minimal changes. This house needed abatement and a gutted bathroom and kitchen. We were the only offer and they begrudgingly accepted and tried every which way to nickel and dime us before closing.

Same here. I only eat beef a few times a year as a treat both for health and environmental reasons. But coffee and chocolate so high up the list is more of a killer for me. I definitely enjoy a couple cups per day as well as at least one bite of dark chocolate. Probably should cut back now that I can't claim ignorance.

I agree. Some kids need extra motivation to get them to practice reading so it really shouldn't matter how dumb the subject matter seems. Whatever gets them to open a book and practice is good.

My dog has a very sensitive stomach so we started bringing treats to the vet that he can eat. He doesn't eat them though on account of how scared he is.

At my first job that literally employed 10 people, the internal IT manager left for a better job. He had been working for them for 5 years and did all sorts of things that weren't in his job description much like all of us since there were, you know, 10 of us. I remember them complaining about not getting any applications and also asking me in the marketing department about how to entice new candidates. My coworker and I looked at the job posting which required 10 years of experience for entry level pay and both suggested that they either need to pay more or reduce the experience required. Their excuse for not doing so basically amounted to that they were paying the previous guy this amount so surely they don't need to pay more. Except... He left? Because of money most likely? It baffled me how they just couldn't connect the dots there.

In the US it's cheap but unregulated and full of shit that's terrible for you. Or you can pay an arm and a leg for stuff that's better but still not up to the standards of most other countries. I learned this by getting a chemical burn in my eye from sunscreen... meant for my face.

It means a child that already somehow existed is un-birthed back into his wife, slowly degrades back into a fetus, then splits into an egg and sperm which finds its way back into his penis and finally his nut sack.

My inlaws took in a Russian family a few years back. It was quite the culture shock for them to get a giant jar of pickled tomatoes and drink hole glasses of the brine. I like pickles and all, but that's just too much ๐Ÿ˜†

Walked out of a movie at the Alamo Draft House to this. Lots of people out partying after the Cubs game suddenly scrambling to get inside.

Mr.Brody won an Oscar time for Brodyquest!!

Oldie but a goodie

I wanted to try out the Wray & Nephew rum that @Infynis used in a previous post and I think it turned out great! It was a LOT cheaper than I expected which is always a plus!

Recipe:

  • 11/2 oz Virgin lslands Rum
  • 11/2 oz Pineapple Juice
  • 3/40z Cream Of Coconut
  • 3/40z Fresh Orange Juice
  • Fresh Grates Nutmeg Garnish

It's been a very long week working 10 hours days. So I'm ending it on a a sweet note with one of my favorite dessert cocktails!

Recipe:

  • 1 oz Bourbon
  • ยพ oz Mr. Coffee
  • ยพ oz demerara syrup
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ยฝ oz heavy cream (oat milk and chickpea milk work good as alternatives)
  • Nutmeg for garnish

Combine ingredients except nutmeg and dry shake (shake longer if using a milk substitute). Add ice and shake vigorously. Double strain into coup glass and grate a nutmeg on top for garnish.

My personal favorite version uses barista oat milk, but I'm sure you can use whatever milk or milk alternative you like.

Gettin' too big and stretchy for its pot!

Hey everyone, I just got back from vacation and I'm super happy to see that the community didn't implode! Thank you all for being respectful while I was away and making my first mod experience a good one. I'll have to find a mod buddy before my next vacation ๐Ÿคฃ.

I'm back from vacation and it looks like this community died while I was away ๐Ÿ˜ญ. Not to worry, my husband turned into a mad scientist and decided he needed to make angostura ice cream. Is it a cocktail? Probably not, but I'll let you decide. If you want to give this a try without making homemade ice cream, you can just top some vanilla ice cream in angostura bitters and enjoy!

Thanks everyone for being respectful while I was away! I need to get a new mod buddy before my next vacation ๐Ÿคฃ. I'll post an actual real cocktail soon.

This is my husband's creation and it's quite tasty! Also I'm aware that I've posted a lot of matcha cocktails lately, but I guess that's what I've been in the mood for ๐Ÿคท.

Recipe:

  • 3/4 oz. St. George spiced pear liqueur
  • 2 oz. London dry gin
  • 3/4 oz. Honey syrup
  • 1 oz. Lemon juice
  • 1 Egg white
  • 1/4 tsp. Matcha powder
  • 1 Basil leaf for garnish

Combine ingredients in a shaker and dry shake for about 20 seconds. Add ice and shake until chilled, about 10 more seconds. Double strain into a glass and garnish with a basil leaf.

Out of all the recipes I've tried, this is my absolute favorite non-alcoholic recipe from the book Regarding Cocktails! It does contain angostura bitters, but you can leave those out if you want the drink to be 100% alcohol free. But even if you don't, it contains no more than kombucha would. Excellent recipe to make in large batches that you can add soda water to when ready to drink!

Recipe:

  • 1 oz. Lemon juice
  • 1 oz. Pineapple juice
  • 1 oz. Ginger syrup
  • 1 Bar spoon of maple syrup
  • A dash of angostura bitters
  • 3 oz. Soda water

Combine all but the soda water and shake vigorously with ice. Strain into a Collins glass with a spear of ice and a straw. Carefully top with soda water. (There isn't a garnish in the book, but some suggestions I like to use include mint, cucumber, lemon peel, or candied ginger).

This is my first focaccia made from Claire Saffitz's book Dessert Person. Here's a video with the recipe for those interested.
