I've been using gimp for years as a Photoshop alternative. Tons of tutorials, and I've always been able to do what I needed.

Its great that there are alternatives for those who want them!

I've got searxng running nicely, I can successfully set it as my default search (firefox) via clicking the URL bar and adding it to my search list.

However, when i actually search, it's searching "https://192.168.1.65/search" instead of "http://192.168.1.65:8887/search". Nothing changes this for the life of me. This results in firefox's 'unable to connect' screen, since the url and http vs https are wrong.

I'm hosting locally on my network server and I have no desire to open it to the outside network.

My kids beg me to disable our network ad blockers so they get perks of mobile app ads.

I'm a huge privacy advocate. I'm also a cheap bastard. Kodi, with Seren, with real-debrid and trakt. $16 for 6 months of everything.

I started self-hosting recently. Getting the hang of it, and have immich and paperless-ngx running. Other stuff too, but those 2 have data i'd like to retain.

I'd like to commit to switching over to these services, and possibly others in the future, however I need to figure out back ups.

Until now, I've kept all data on my NAS, and back ups on flash drives. Some i keep here, some i keep off-site (3-2-1 strategy), all encrypted.

I'd like to follow a similar strategy, but going forward i'll likely have tons of meta data and configs associated with these files and services, which will be just as valuable to backup. Is it simple as copying a folder over, or is there popular back up strategy most people use. Again i'm new, not trying to over complicate things, but don't want all my eggs in one basket.

I quit a few years ago. Super liberating, but after 2 years of practically nobody jumping on Signal with me, and being left out of friend group chats, I settled on "Facebook lite" for my phone. I dont post, or scroll the feed. Just available for chats.

Noob starting first server. Installed Ubuntu server, and opted for LVM. However, will that cause me problems on a headless server if I get a power outage and need to reboot? I think yes. Is there a solution, or should i remove LVM before i go too deep setting things up?

I'm smart enough to know you're looking for a calculated estimate, yet dumb enough to add "I did it" for you to add to your count. Happy counting!

Thanks for this. I'm not in USA but I had chatgpt summarize my vehicle manufacturers privacy policy. Its wasn't great, so I sent an email to their privacy inbox. Next, I'll email my politicians.

Many companies reimburse the cost of the product in exchange for a 5 star review. Don't trust all amazon reviews!

I'm running Pop! OS. Having a problem where i need to reconfig my monitor settings every time i boot.

Hardware is GTX 1080. Monitors are as follows:

  • GPU DVI to DVI monitor
  • GPU display port to DVI monitor
  • GPU HDMI to 5.1 audio reciever, with HDMI to HDMI monitor 3.

On boot up monitors 1 and 2 are mirrored, and 3 may or may not need to be turned on and off a few times to work properly.

Everything is up to date, including OS and Nvidia drivers. I duel boot with Windows 10, and Windows works perfectly.

What's the best way to teach my kid programming. I don't know how. He's interested. He's done well in school with Scratch. He's expressed interest in Python, owns a Thumby, but never gets too far on his own. Instead of a Winter sport, we're leaning towards a Python class, however there's none in person. How can i help my kid embrace his passion and learn this skill which will help him his whole life.

He's got Mu installed and has perused youtube tutorials, but they dont hold his interest. Any help is appreciated. Edit: He's 10.

For maintenance...this sucks.

The first time I picked up a crayon, I used my left hand. My parents were concerned but waited it out. After watching me use my left hand the next few times they decided to convert me.

I was brought to a special Sunday school service where right is right. They started with drawing, then moved on to writing. Eventually they worked on my instincts, by throwing things at me, at random, to ensure I used the right hand to catch. I was slapped with a yard stick in the knuckles whenever I used the wrong hand.

Leftiism exists. Parents think they are helping but it's caused all sorts of problems in my life.

Me! I was a huge fan of Kevin Rose due to TechTV and jumped on board as soon as he released it.

There's got to be some technology that does this. No sploofs!

Currently i crack a window, put a small square fan in it, and blow my exhaust through the fan. I use a vaporizer which cuts down the smell a lot, but there is still a lingering odor the night of, and sometimes the following morning.

I would prefer no odor at all, immediately. Any help is appreciated.

I've been using GrapheneOS for over 2 years now. Love it. I cannot help but feel I'm missing out when i go on a road trip and have to constantly glance at my phone (OsmAnd~), instead of using the perfectly good display built into my vehicle.

Any good alternatives? I've considered using an old phone, or recently I've seen Android "AI Boxes". Both connect to the internet through bluetooth/hotspot on your phone. Not sure of the privacy implications or amount of Google in both.

Not looking for 3rd party screens or phone mounts as options.

Rimworld - 2000 hours so far. I'm not done yet. The mod community and periodic dlc keep it alive for me.

My plan is to buy an NVMe today, install linux as a dual boot, but use linux as a daily driver, to see if it meets my needs before committing to it.

My main needs are gaming, local AI (stable diffusion and oobabooga), and browser stuff.

I have experience with Mint (recently) and Ubuntu (long ago). Any problems with my plan? Will my OS choice meet my needs?

Thanks!
