A great episode to end the season, though it did confirm my suspicions that the writing has been heavily padded. If they had tried to build up to this episode any more than it would have likely spoiled some of the big moments and reveals, so instead they had to have several episodes (including one that was egregiously short) where very little happened to tread water until the finale. To distract from that, they tried to make those episodes as visually interesting as possible. I predict that once future seasons have aired, it will become quite obvious that the finale of this season should not have been a finale at all but rather the culmination of a second act coming in somewhere around the episode 7 - 8 mark.

You'll realise pretty quickly if you watch the film. Ruffalo's character definitely makes some unflattering allusions to a certain US political figure, and many people are very easily triggered these days by any form of political satire.

I would not be surprised at all if a large portion of the negative reviews are from right wingers who took offence to the Ruffalo character.

Yes, I 100% agree about that bug execution scene. That was the "riot" scene I referred to, where her little character arc seemed to peak like there was about to be this big mask-off Starship Troopers moment. And then they just did nothing with it. So weird.

Yes I think it's a much more impactful film if you watch it totally blind. It's a shame you didn't get to experience that.

The biggest flaw was how underdeveloped Kai was. She was set up in act 1, had a lot of screen time in act 2, then completely disappeared from existence for the entire last act except for one brief “oh yeah, here’s Kai” shot at the end.

I totally forgot about this! I completely agree, it was so bizarre how much screen time and development her character received in the middle of the film for it to ultimately lead nowhere. I thought for sure she was going to be setup as either a new love interest (with a twist where his previous lover turns on him) or setup as a new villain but they did neither. She didn't even influence the plot in a sidekick role, she was just totally absent following the riot scene. I wonder if something was cut because it seemed like big inconsistency.

To quit in Firefox I have to tap to open a menu, then scroll down twice, then tap “quit”.

(Just replying in this thread since I can no longer access your other thread.)

I think the reason I overlooked this as an issue is because I have a phone with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The entire menu is always available, I never have to scroll to find things. I went back to a couple of my older phones with 18:5:9 and 16:9 aspect ratios and I can see what you're talking about now. The shorter your screen is, the more this becomes an issue. Although on all of them it's still only a single scroll so I'm not sure why you are being forced to scroll down twice.

It is yes, one of the reasons why I would recommend Firefox over Vivaldi (or any Chromium browser).

[–] Ilandar@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Vivaldi is very close, it's only missing the FOSS requirement which I'm guessing is one OP would be willing to compromise on.

It depends how important the tab bar feature is to you. Firefox has pretty much every other feature you've listed there and would be my recommendation. Otherwise, Vivaldi has all of the functionality but isn't FOSS and is potentially less private. It would still be a lot better than Samsung Internet in those areas, though.

The only thing there I'd really agree with is the pacing, which is only an issue in the final third of the film. Your other complaints are sort of just about Bong Joon-ho's style, most of his films are like that. I'm surprised you found them problematic considering he was one of the reasons why you went to see the film.

And to be honest I'm not really interested in watching someone else's review of the film. If you want to discuss it then you should put the effort into articulating your thoughts here.

How are people affording having 20 subscriptions to stuff they probably barely use?

Who said they can? This will be an unpopular opinion because no one likes to admit they are at fault, but the cost of living crisis we are experiencing in Western countries is actually just a cost of spending crisis for some people. Some of those who claim to be "struggling" shouldn't be, but they have never been taught how to effectively manage their finances and until now they've been able to get away with it.

What do you think is in store for this game in 2025? How much more work does the general gameplay need, what new additions will we receive and how far away is the full release?
