Bad railroad safety? Surely there is no way that could go horribly wrong

Also you can't program an open-source project in a way that prevents a group of people from using it. It's public and anyone can download and deploy it. So "kbin" can't do anything about them, existing servers defederating them is the only way to go

I have it and I'm pretty happy with it, but for some reason I have dropped this phone way more often than any phone I had before. Idk if this is a me issue, but maybe get a protective case from the start (unlike me)

Blocking instances has been standard practice for ages on mastodon, it's an important moderation tool to keep radical right-wing instances at bay. Without it, the overall experience would be much worse. Of course there will always be a debate about which instances should be defederated and which shouldn't, but as another commenter already mentioned, everyone will be able to make their choice and find their own little corner.

Also at least this is used to build solar panels, a definite step up from coal and oil plants

For me, the "unfinishedness" of the fediverse mentioned in the article also makes up a lot of its charm - but I can see how this can be an issue for people who want their services to Just Work
