No, the narrative just changed. Good luck convincing anyone the 2020 election wasn't stolen ever again.

"I told you. In 2020 we won all 50 states. Voter fraud by the millions. I was saying it all along. But we worked hard, we passed laws for election integrity, we watched the polls and they couldn't cram their 10, 15 million votes into the boxes again. And look what happened. Instead of winning by 8 million votes, she lost by 6 million votes. Which is what should have happened last time."

This is the narrative I've been hearing. The voters that just stayed home simply never existed in the first place, as far as they're concerned. He's going to use this victory as proof of his claim that he should have won last time, voter fraud was rampant, and Democrats are cheaters. And it's going to work.

For those who are saying "Trump can't do this or can't do that...."

Yes. Yes he fucking can.

The American people just voted, in a landslide, in favor of Trump's agenda. And they voted to send more MAGA people to Congress to help him. They have full control of all 3 branches of government now, with comfortable majorities.

The Supreme Court just said Trump is immune from prosecution for official acts, which they define as "whatever Trump says they are, unless we say otherwise."

There are no more "moderate" Republicans. Anyone who is not fully on board the Trump train has been weeded out. They are there to rubber stamp Project 2025. And there's not a single one left who would dare to speak, let alone vote, against him.

This is a "Do what I want and get away with it" administration. Trump will do what he wants. And if it's not legal, Congress is there to make it legal. And if it's unconstitutional, the Supreme Court is there to make it Constitutional.

Understand this. There are no guardrails any more. They've all been removed. And rather than defend Democracy, the American people just handed them the tools to do it. Trump can do what he wants, will do what he wants, and he'll do it to the thunderous applause of the American public.

Authoritarianism is here. It's covered in spray-tan. And it's going to be sworn in in January.

Remember, Arab-Americans. You refused to vote for Harris because of Gaza. When Israel ratchets up the genocide with Trump's blessing, remember that you voted for this.

Remember, Latino men who wouldn't vote for Harris because she's a woman. When you get caught up in the mass deportations or half of your friends get sent back to their home countries, remember that you voted for this.

Same with the white guys. When you lose that cushy federal job because your answers on a random questionnaire weren't MAGA enough, remember that you voted for this.

When it's your daughters bleeding out in a parking lot because of a national abortion ban, remember that you voted for this.

You think you're strapped for cash now? Trump's new tariffs are going to cost you on average about $400 a month. You won't get anything out of it. You'll just be spending $400 a month on literally nothing because the guy you voted for doesn't understand how tariffs work. And that doesn't even count price hikes from the ripple effects of the tariffs and what it will do to the entire supply chain. Hope you've got a plan, because again.......you fucking voted for this.

And this doesn't even take into account the fact that Republicans just got finished admitting that they were lying about Project 2025 all along. They know how unpopular it is. They know people see it as a power grab. THEY OPENLY ADMITTED FUCKING LYING TO YOU TO GET THEIR AGENDA PASSED. JD VANCE OPENLY ADMITTED LYING TO VOTERS IN ORDER TO SHAPE THE NARRATIVE. AND YOU STILL VOTED FOR THEM. And they couldn't even wait 24 hours before taking the masks off and laughing directly in your face. Project 2025 is what we do know about. I'm fearful of what else they've been withholding that they plan on doing.

Y'all are about to find out that the most expensive trip in your lives is going to prove to be the trip to the voting booth that you didn't take. We'll all be paying for that for decades to come.

You hear about those stories where the white cop pulls over the black guy. And then of course he smells weed because of course he does. And then the black guy steps out of the car, and then a bunch of stuff happens, and the guy is somehow in the back of the cruiser and only semi conscious?

In Trumpworld, that's what is going to be considered "the good ending".

Harris: "I support Israel."

Arab-Americans: "We cannot support you because you support genocide."

Trump: "I'll genocide harder. And I'll throw your asses out of here while I'm at it!"

Arab-Americans: "That's our guy!"

Good job, guys. Let me know how that works out for you.

Everybody is warning us of the impact of the election. They've been warning us for years.

The problem is that Americans stood up and either said "We know. We just don't care.", or "We know. We want it that way."

There are no moderate Republicans. They're all gone. They've been rooted out. You're either full MAGA or you have no political career.

[-] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 78 points 21 hours ago

And do you think there will be a single Republican willing to do anything about it?

Mark my words, they will vote 100% in lockstep every single time. And if what Trump is doing is illegal (like that matters anyway), they'll just write legislation to make it legal. Not a single one of them is going to even think about criticizing him, out of fear of either violence, political suicide, or both.

The government will be crammed with unqualified hacks from top to bottom. The corruption will be open and blatant.

And every single Republican senator will vote to confirm. Every single time.

RFK in charge of healthcare. Musk in charge of spending. Aileen cannon is either getting the AG job or a Supreme Court seat. Whichever one she doesn't get, Alina Hobba gets. Steve Bannon gets pardoned and gets communications director. Alex Jones is probably going to crawl out from whatever rock he crawled under too.

They'll all get jobs. The Senate will confirm them all. And far-right conspiracy theories will become official US policy.

While being able to say that a majority of voters wanted it this way because they voted for him.

[-] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 35 points 21 hours ago

No, all of them.

In the words of Rush, "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."

The other 60% voted by staying home, knowing it was a de-facto vote for Trump.

[-] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 54 points 21 hours ago

"Yeah, we've been lying to you the entire time. Deal with it. Nothing you can do about it now."

[-] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago

I don't mean to sound stereotypical and I know not all Latinos feel this way, but Latino men tend to have a very strong sense of male dominance and a very strong mistrust of the police. For a lot of them, there was never a chance you were going to get them to vote for a black, female former prosecutor.

"Now that the election is over I think we can finally say that yeah actually Project 2025 is the agenda," Walsh wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

In other words "Damn right we lied to everybody! Thanks, suckers!"

I guess there's no need to even bother wearing the masks any more. Racism, misogyny and bigotry won the day. Handily. Republicans turned out in droves to sign up for more of it, and Democrats have said they're willing to accept it rather than elect a black woman. At that point, why even bother hiding it. Everybody knows what it is, and last night they said in pretty decisive fashion that they either actively want it or are at least willing to accept it.

We did this to ourselves. Trump made some small gains, but Harris underperformed Biden by roughly 10% or so. That means millions of Democrats sat home instead of voting for Harris, which also cost the Democrats some House and Senate seats downballot due to the lower turnout. There was no election fraud. This was a free and fair election. Trump won the popular vote. There are no excuses this time. We. Voted. For. This.

8-10 million Democrats stayed home. I don't care if you're "protesting Gaza", or if you're a closeted bigot who would rather sit out than vote for a black woman. Or whatever. If you stayed home rather than vote for Harris, you voted for this. In the words of Rush, "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice". And you made that choice knowing it was a de-facto vote for Trump.

The GOP had a damn good night last night. And they couldn't even wait 24 hours before cramming it right down our throats. They couldn't even wait 24 hours to take the mask off. Give it a couple of days and I figure the national abortion ban will be the next thing they don't bother trying to lie about any more. Why bother trying to hide it? We already said we're cool with it.
