No urgency

Meanwhile people are facing financial struggles with stupid high food prices and out of budget mortgage renewals.

Let them eat cake....

The whole "run a business" thing is bonkers. No wonder so many family doctors give up and go do something else.

With that change in the CBC article that you linked... there's hope. My family doctor told us that she's going to retire this year... hopefully there's a replacement or 10 at the clinic so people can start getting that initial care they need and relieve the pressure on the ER :-(

Yup. I really regret letting my EU number go when I moved (back) to Canada. My EU number was about 25 Eur per month (a few years ago) including international roaming calls and data in Canada.

I though naaah, I'll get a local number because it makes sense right? No not really... 98% of the calls I get on my local Canadian number are scam calls (someone threatening me in Chinese with deportation over unpaid taxes etc.) so it's not like I would have been inconveniencing anyone local calling me... most of the remaining 2% call me on WhatsApp or Signal...

They manufacture and sell the buses in Canada... There are BYD buses in operation in at least Toronto, Victoria, Longeuil, St. Albert and Grand Prairie (and probably more by now). https://en.byd.com/news/byd-opens-first-canadian-bus-assembly-plant/ If you're in Montreal, there's a decent chance you'll see BYD E6 taxis.

There's been rumors of the cars being prepped for general sale in Canada.... but I can't find any proof of that right now.

Personal experience on my part. I deleted 13 years of contributions on Reddit. They are ALL back. My account was deleted... but every single comment (that I checked anyway) is still there. I checked after I deleted them... and they were not visible for almost 2 months after I did the pass to delete... now they're all back.

You and I see through the fluff... and we are in the minority. PP is just saying whatever people want to hear. No facts, no proof, just fluff that riles up the voters.

I've been using Nvidia with Linux for a VERY long time. Currently I have computers running:

  • GT1030 - two older PC
  • GTX2060 Ti
  • GTX 3050 Ti - laptop

They are all working fine with openSUSE Tumbleweed. I install openSUSE, add the Nvidia community repo (a couple of clicks), run updates once, and reboot. Everything just works after that. I can count maybe 3 times in the past 6 years that there was any issue at all.

Now Ubuntu and derivative... I've had a LOT of issues and weirdness... drivers failing, doing weird things etc.

So there's a chance then....

Lived in the GVRD. Thought "this is way too expensive, everyone is saying Alberta is so much cheaper" so we put things in storage and went to Alberta. Six months in, we discovered...

  • Car insurance in AB is 3 to 5 times what we were paying in BC and we get less coverage.
  • Rents are only marginally lower than what we'd pay on a similar property in the Fraser Valley
  • House prices were only marginally lower in the Calgary region vs where we bought in BC
  • Winter in Alberta sucks big time

After six months we moved back to BC. The small difference in housing costs made so little impact to our monthly COL, that it wasn't worth it. We paid WAY more for car insurance and electricity - so much so that any savings we saw in housing costs were totally eclipsed by other expenses.

Try FreeOffice: https://www.freeoffice.com/en/ I've foudn it better than OnlyOffice and it is German vs Russian... so there's that in favour of FreeOffice.

It really depends on how you're paid. I'm paid through a Canadian payroll entity so all taxes are sorted properly with the CRA.

The only thing I've got to be aware of tax wise is maintaining my Canadian tax residency... which means being physically on Canada at least 6 months of the year.
