It would look cleaner, but the glue types I have thought of either would not be very compatible with the material or not be strong enough given the fact that usage puts strain on those bits. And I kind of like the style.

I think that rechtstaat/Rechtsstaat (both the German and Dutch variety of the word) are supposed to be translated into English as "rule of law". But I could be wrong.

Piece of advice: add -qv to your emerge command to let Portage show the things you need to know but stay quiet otherwise. Way less gets shown on the terminal window and on some systems it might slightly speed up the process.
