i totally get it. this isn’t as bad as yours but my “friend” fucked up my mental state for a while, nothing was ever good enough for them, they treated me like an animal that they could control. they’re only nice when they need attention/validation, they would act like nothing happened and that everything was fine after calling me useless just before.

i speak spanish, a very common language in the us. most of my friends were also spanish speakers, so we did this a lot, especially if we were discussing something personal between us, dirty, or talking about another teacher.
obviously, we didn’t do this around a spanish teacher or a spanish-speaking one, but we did this a lot most of the time.

ohhh, makes sense. i meant for example, if a polish person who lived by the polish-german border ended up learning german to communicate with germans or not.

it’s polish quotation marks, i accidentally had the foreign keyboard.
saw something similar with someone on lemmy actually, that since they spoke a foreign language, they were some other user creating an alt and therefore a bad person.
