DC and Marvel own all the rights to all of their characters, it was the primary motivation behind the exodus of superstar talent from those companies to form Image comics in the early 90s, where creators owned the rights to their characters.

I don't think Moore has any say in it.

What a wild time to be alive, man.

The standard payment to an artist on Spotify is "$0.003 to $0.005 per stream": https://simplebeen.com/artists-make-on-spotify/

That is basically nothing for any artist that isn't in the top tier of mainstream success.

prior to Spotify coming along the industry was in decline as downloading MP3’s on torrents and file sharing programs was the norm

You're essentially pirating music by using Spotify, you are not paying the artists that you listen to in any meaningful way.

I’m still getting a ridiculous amount of value from Spotify

If only the same could be said for the artists you're listening to...

[–] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (10 children)

That seems extremely high, can you explain your listening habits? Are you listening to all of those albums start to finish? Are you selecting each of those albums or just letting the algorithm run wild?

I'm reeling.

You misspelled the comm name.

but the system was still rigged from the start

And this, intentionally or not, is the real message. There's no such thing as a real meritocracy, the system is always rigged in favor of the people who created it.

but the common thread seems to be that absolute power corrupts absolutely

This is not at all the intended message of Atlas Shrugs.

Solium Infernum: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1893810/Solium_Infernum/

Brilliantly original strategy game where you play demon lords fighting for rule of hell. Amazing, complex strategy where you need to use insults, threats, challenges and diplomacy just as much as military and magical power to win. Incredible art and writing and incredibly fun and deep gameplay. Warning: you may ruin friendships over this game, you can really do devastating stuff to each other once player abilities ramp up in the later game.

Does anybody have experience running Native Instruments VSTs on Linux? Specifically the stuff from NI Komplete that uses their Native Access app for installation and management?

I'm currently using Ableton on Windows 10, dual booting with Ubuntu. I only keep Windows for Ableton and games at the moment but want to shift as much as possible to full time Linux once I'm forced to upgrade to Windows 11.

I'm currently learning Bitwig Studio for this purpose but a big chunk of my plugins come from NI's Komplete and it would be painful to have to replace them.

I've seen people saying they successfully run Windows VSTs on Linux with Wine, but I feel like the Native Access app that NI forces on you might complicate that.

Soaring atmospheric industrial noise and beats over gothy vocals, creating a unique, epic soundscape. One of my favourite albums in recent years.

My favourite Limmy ever.

Looking for some help identifying a flying insect. They are black and red flying bugs about the size of a largish wasp and have a very long, distinct "stinger" on their ass, but I don't think it's actually used to sting. I see them almost exclusively on the lawn where they are constantly flitting around, landing then taking off again after a few seconds.

Sorry I couldn't get a decent photo of them.

I've always called them Grass Wasps but I don't know if that's a name I made up (searching for that term doesn't find them). I'm pretty sure they're not actual wasps.

I'm just trying to find their actual name to look up some information on them. I'm used to seeing them around but the last couple of months their numbers have been steadily increasing in my yard to the extent where there's basically a swarm of them permanently around. They don't really do anything problematic but I was curious why they seem so populous at the moment (I assume its just the jungle weather we've been having) and if they might cause any issues in large numbers.
