This is actually a persistent myth: there is no evidence that they are beholden to a constituency that would punish them for any actions that curtail Israel.

Israel's actions are wildly unpopular across the electorate. They are unpopular with nearly all Democrats as well as most independents and a very large plurally of Republicans. I have seen numerous polls that show that there is a very significant number of voters that Harris is losing over this, and I have seen absolutely nothing to indicate that there is any measurable cost to her speaking out against Israel at all. Which is really sad. Because it means that this is absolutely a moral choice on her part. This is not an electoral choice at all.

From a technical standpoint, this is an incredible achievement. From a moral or rational one, though, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THIS IS TERRIBLE.

I just don't even have the energy to list all the ways this is an insane and destabilizing thing to do. Fuck. God, I wish we had any electoral power of America's terrible foreign policy.

In what reality is Taylor known for making bad music?

I don't really listen to her stuff, but I've heard it and none of it sounds off-putting. I've also never heard anyone who likes music complain that her music is unpleasant to listen to.

Every time I see an article on this prick I think, "Well this fucking sucks."

Anyway, this fucking sucks.

[-] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 42 points 8 months ago

Shamelessness, mostly.

This is a guy who has spent 20 years insisting that every terrible thing that happened under his control didn't happen, wasn't his fault, and was proof of what would happen if he wasn't in power.

It feels silly to ridicule Vaush for jacking off to hentai.

I'd rather people ridicule him for being just an insufferable troll. And I say this as a leftist: he doesn't seem to add anything to the discourse.

[-] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 41 points 9 months ago

Christ, this asshole.

It's a constant source of frustration for me that building your political power on promises to elevate a dominant ethnicity or faith over a minority group is such a consistently successful strategy.

And, like ... where's this going? If feels like narratively, rising ethnonationalism never stops itself. It just gets bolder and bolder until something explodes. This feels like the early years of another of history's 'oh shit' moments.

We're getting ready to release Fully Automated, which means setting up social media accounts and our website:

fullyautomatedrpg.com

I'm not sure how much activity this community will have, but if people are interested in discussing the game, here's the place to do it!

If you're unfamiliar with the game and have found your way here, go ahead and ask questions.

It’s easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism. Nowhere is this more visible than on the shelves of game shops, where our choices for the future are dystopia, apocalypse, and space. Fully Automated is an open source tabletop RPG project developing a free game meant to provide for solarpunk what Dungeons & Dragons provides for fantasy. It's now in beta version 0.3 and we're looking to build our community of play testers and contributors!

Fully Automated! Solarpunk tabletop RPG

Gameplay: Fully Automated can be used with whatever your favorite system is. But for the best experience, we’ve designed a simple 2d10 system for roleplay built specifically for a world of interdependence and care rather than the logic of individualist domination that underlies most RPGs. For combat, Fully Automated uses a custom card-based system that’s fast and fun, and designed with defense and preservation of life in mind.

Characters: Who do you want to be? A healer? Hacker? Negotiator? Athlete? Customize from dozens of augmentations and abilities or play as one of 12 unique pre-made characters such as a Capoeira monk and a streetwise bike courier.

World Guide: You don’t have to study the economy, governance, and legal structure of Fully Automated to play it. But if you’re curious or looking for inspiration for your own writing, it’s all there. Learn about everything from food production to housing, along with a history that tells how we got from here to there. There's no one vision of solarpunk, but whatever your taste you can find things to use in our grounded, hard-sci-fi lore set one hundred years in the future.

Plus: playable stories! Fully Automated! Campaign 1- Regulation has a full three-mission campaign with 16+ hours of content to demonstrate what thrilling adventures look like within a world of fully automated luxury communism.

If you want to play or join this project visit our Discord server and help us work toward releasing version 1 in February 2024!

I saw an effort at trying to systematize solarpunk elsewhere that felt a bit confused, but it reminded me of this. I'm not typically inclined to try to taxonamize everything, but I'll admit that the appeal definitely isn't lost on me. This felt useful.

Honestly -- and I before I say this, Free Palestine -- if you want to be a person who tears down a poster looking for a missing person, I think you should be prepared to live your life as a someone who everyone knows tears down posters of missing persons.

I think people have a right to privacy in the ways that don't affect other people, but when you do things that affect others -- whether that's not cleaning up after your dog or anonymously harassing whoever hung a poster of a loved one by tearing it down -- I don't feel you're exercising a right that I have some obligation to defend. Live with the reputation of who you are.

Again, I say this as a critic of the genocide in Gaza. Bibi Netanyahu deserves to be dragged into the Hague to face the International Criminal Court. At the same time, I still hope as many of the Israeli hostages are returned safely as possible, and I have no sympathy for people who are inclined to tear down a missing person poster and want anonymity. That's not liberating Palestine, that's just anonymously terrorizing whatever grieving person hung the poster when they discover it's been torn down.

Displaced Palestinians give a bleak first-hand account of how the Israel-Hamas war has torn apart the lives of their families.

Conferences have been abruptly cancelled, media appearances suppressed and demands made to fire critics of Israeli policies.

I'm a developer for an open-world tabletop RPG called Fully Automated! The goal is to create a free, open-source game that can be to solarpunk what D&D is to fantasy and Shadowrun to Cyberpunk. And the first version is mostly done. It's got:

  • A flexible, easy-to-play system similar to a d20 game!
  • A massive open world!
  • An easy character creator along with a dozen pre-made example characters!
  • A high-stakes three-story campaign with over 14 hours of content! ...And a lot more!

I'm looking for more play testers, both as players and (if you're game) GMs! We've got a Discord server where we're running games on a rolling basis. The goal is to release it for free by the end of the year. I'd like to get as much feedback as possible before then, and if possible build a community around this totally free, open-source tool for making and sharing diverse solarpunk adventures!

I've heard it said that the key to a benign prank is to creates a mixture of momentary alarm and confusion, followed by relief.

A few years ago, I put a sign on my boss' office door that said that his office was off limits for the week, as the building facilities team was going to be proactively placing humane termite traps in his office for two weeks as a preventative measures to lure any termites in and then release them at a nearby forest. He found it amusing.

That's a shame. I had no idea he was 70.

It's weird: 10 years ago I would've said, "Well, 70 is a good long life, right?" But now I have parents that age and it doesn't feel that old.
