I have a small lemon tree that was bought from a local grower and came with the extra bonus of an Asian Citrus Psysllid infestation. The tree is dead now and I'd love to get a new tree, but want to make sure I've done everything I could to prevent a new tree from getting infested by any Psysllid still in the area.

Is there anything I can do to treat my soil or surrounding plants to make sure those little buggers aren't going to keep coming back? I'm in California where the sale of IMIDACLOPRID products is banned, which was previously the primary treatment for this.

Yeah, I was also starting to lean toward putting NextCloud on the OPi. There's just not much happening on my OPi and I was only hesitating from trying that because I didn't think the OPi could handle it, but it's worth trying.

Thanks for the feedback!

  1. I may not have labeled that accurately, I just plan to use Tailscale to access these services from specific authorized devices.
  2. I meant "before I do something that is a pain to correct". Like starting with the wrong OS or file system format.
  3. My plan is to build a media server which will include 4k media, so I think my storage may need to grow over time... maybe TrueNAS is something I can add later if needed?
  4. I guess the reason I was thinking of 2 separate machines is that I've heard using an OPi as a media server or NextCloud server will go really slow and potentially cause other issues. Plus I already have an old computer doing nothing right now, just needs new SSDs.

Used the whiteboard tool in Clickup. It's a lot like FigJam.

I'm still dipping my toes into self hosting and trying to figure out what services I would want to be always accessible from my devices vs those that could be awakened by LAN, and which services should be installed at the OS level vs as containers.

As of now, I just have an OrangePi 5 Plus running Home Assistant Supervised under Debian and nothing else. I'm hoping to expand the OPi a bit and also build out another PC (hardware unknown) as a NAS media server and NextCloud machine.

Before I start doing anything I can't undo, I'm wondering if I' on the right track with my proposed setup in the image, or if there's anything else I should consider?

Hi all! Just curious where some of you find out about new games/systems. I used to really enjoy the RPG Of The Month thread on old Reddit before the site really went in the crapper, but not sure where to find similar discussions nowadays.

I'll probably go this route, thanks!

Oh, those look nice! Looks like they're sold out at the official retailer sites though. Bummer.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for a physical remote control that can be used with HomeAssistant? I'm hoping to find a multi-button zigbee or wifi device that HA can recognize and allow me to configure buttons to HA automations.

I'm already using a couple single button devices that can be configured to perform different actions on single press, double press, and long press, but would love a single device with multiple buttons for some locations.

Yeah, that's good feedback. I usually don't like getting crazy with fonts and colors, but thought I'd give it a try here. I also almost always have a dark mode extension on in my browser which totally changes the look of the sheet, and I sometimes forget what the actual colors are.

I used to more actively volunteer around the city, but now find that it's been WAY too long since I last got off my butt to help others. What are your suggestions for volunteer opportunities around the city?

Currently playing Werewolf the Apocalypse and will likely be playing Hunter when this campaign wraps up. I'm also hoping to get a chance to play some Pathfinder 2e and maybe run a Delta Green game. Would love to play Mothership at some point. Hope you all have a great new year of gaming!

I take it back, having used it as my default search engine for a few days now I can say that it's more difficult to find decent results that DDG or Google.

I prefer tracking my TTRPG characters digitally and really hate PDFs, so I tend to make custom spreadsheets for each game I play. This is one I made for Werewolf 5e that not only tracks the same info you would see on the standard PDF, but also includes info on gifts, rites, advantages, and forms so I don't have to dig thru the rulebook for the things I need most often.

Feel free to copy and for yourself, or let me know here if there anything that could be improved in this shared sheet. I'll probably switch from Google Sheets to some other FOSS alternative in 2025.

I've also got character sheets for Changling 5e, Vampire 20th, and Masks: A New Generation if anyone here is interested, but those are older and probably not as fully fleshed out as this Werewolf sheet.

What made you start looking for reddit alternatives? What subreddits are you hoping to find analogs for?

I'm generally pretty skeptical of companies touting tree planting campaigns as it's often just greenwashing, but I'll give this a shot. So far, the search results aren't any worse than other Google alternatives.

I used to primarily use Instagram for following illustrators, sculptors, digital artists, etc., but I dropped Insta for obvious reasons.

There was also a large exodus from Insta to Cara.app almost a year ago due to Meta's stupid policies on using Insta content to train AI. While Cara is generally a great site and has anti-AI policies (I'm not anti-AI, just anti the way most companies implement AI), my problem with Cara is that it's an owner funded site that will inevitably need to find a way to monetize the content/users.

On the Fediverse, I'm on Lemmy, Mastodon (though I don't love the micro-blog format), and Pixelfed (very little activity).

So my question is: What platforms in the Fediverse are you seeing the most original artist content?

When browsing posts, it's far too easy to click the back navigation button on my device which currently takes me to the Communities page. The problem is, once you move away from the Posts page there doesn't seem to be any way of returning to your previous place in the Posts page.

This could be solved a couple of ways:

  1. Disable the device's back navigation button from moving you away from the Posts page.
  2. Have some method of remembering and returning your the previous place in the Posts page.

I'm in the process of de-googling, and for the most part I'm pretty okay with using separate services for things like email, photos, calendar, etc... but the few things that I really like having bundled are Google Docs and Sheets in my Google Drive.

There's plenty of good alternatives for cloud storage, but I haven't seen any that come with any sort of office-like products. I know that I can self host my own private cloud storage and something like OpenOffice, but I'm hoping to find an existing cloud solution so I don't have to bother with that maintenance.

Any recommendations?

Hell yes! Love Clifton's!
