@dgerard

Re: sh.itjust.works, I probably missed a lot of the drama, but I feel like the antagonism towards them was at least partly justified. There were a lot of posters from there picking fights on hexbear and posting really "problematic" takes. Similar to your experience with this hexbear user, it seems.

Obviously, I don't condemn the whole instance for what is likely the behavior of a small minority of bad actors, but I understand the animosity. Like I do yours, after seeing that post.

@dgerard

I just looked up that user on hexbear and 40-50% of their posts are deleted lmao. I assume registrations were limited because mods on Hexbear couldn't keep up with all the new users, and it looks like they aren't as quick to ban users outright as they once were. Probably as part of the post-federation policy, to be more open and welcoming...

@dgerard

Oh, I believe you. Hexbear has had some...growing pains since it recently federated. Among other things, an influx of new users from the reddit diaspora has led to some new and surprising behavior.

I think I found the race science case you're referring to. I was curious to see if it was just trolling or an ironic bit (lots of bit accounts on hexbear and sometimes it's difficult to tell) but nope, it looks sincere.

That's really unfortunate.

Would you guys be open to negotiating federation with hexbear, if you could could agree on terms with their admins? I think there is (or was) a considerable overlap in users between the old subreddits.

If not, I guess I can just make another account here.

@dgerard @self

Any links to the race science or cryptobro nonsense? I ask because that's really surprising; generally /r/cth & hexbear have had essentially the same stance on that shit as /r/sneerclub.

I've been a member of both communities for years, on and off, and I just found this lemmy instance after thinking /r/sneerclub was dead since the API change. Now I'm disappointed to learn that the lemmy versions of my favorite communities from Reddit aren't federated.
