When I talk about the crappy laptop, it's the fact that it will lock up at random when under medium or high load (which can be as much as watching a youtube video). Spec-wise it is plenty for my use and yours is definitely worse ;-)

Not a lock screen per se. I did not like the idea of having logout/reboot/shutdown buttons in the status bar since I don't want to click them by mistake, so I made a key combo (Meta+Del) which shows this custom screen with the mentioned options in the bottom right. As for the image, it is a darkened version of this one.

The original is on pixiv but you can also find it on yande.re. On the screenshot it has a transparent layer of black covering it to make it darker.

Other TTS engines can surely work, yes, but I have found none that support my language and I prefer getting directions not in English :-). Magic Earth comes with TTS for my language and also worked on my previous Android phone, which was close to stock Android (LineageOS without Google Play).

I like Magic Earth on Android. I admit to not having done thorough investigation on all the privacy aspects, but the FOSS solutions cannot (could not?) offer me voiced directions in my own language without installing the Google voice pack software and I only use navigation about three times a year, so I stuck with Magic Earth.

Started out with Mandrake in 1998 and got into Debian shortly after. I moved to Gentoo in 2002. In the later 2000s I only used my desktop for gaming and stopped dual booting for many years. My home server runs BSD and I was using a 2010 MacBook as my laptop. The only Linux box in my home was my HTPC, running Ubuntu.

When I heard of Proton I started dual booting again. In 2020 I got rid of Windows and the aging MacBook. Since then my desktop, laptop and HTPC run on Arch. The server is still FreeBSD.

After I got the update, the first thing I did was look for the setting to disable the system tray icon 😅. Alas, there is no such setting, so I hid it using KDE's controls, but it's suboptimal..

That would be unlawful detention here. Also, what about people that go in and decide they don't actually want to buy anything after all?

It's not like you're trapped... you can just walk out if you want, but doing so without paying and carrying full bags may raise an eyebrow with employees. Although I think I could easily get away with that in my small village supermarket during quiet hours when nobody is paying attention.

And very easy to set up and run without docker! For, you know, us folks with a BSD server 🙂

What works for me is a pi-hole at home, a wireguard service on my (dd-wrt) router with the pi-hole functioning as dns server and my phone using wireguard as an always-on vpn.

All traffic on my phone is now routed through the pi-hole at home, which filters out all tracking, wherever I am.

Trying to beat Tails of Iron on the hardest difficulty. The game was fun and somewhat challenging on normal and I did 100% it. The hardest difficulty feels random and just unfair at times and honestly isn't very fun to play. But I'm determined and have reached the last area, so hopefully I'll succeeded this weekend.

Twice in roughly 38 years. Both my fault: riding a bicycle in the dark without light and in front of a car who couldn't see mee and once as a 12-year old racing into an intersection where the car clearly had the right of way (it hit me and was legally at fault since that is how it works here; my parents made me go to their house afterwards to apologise).
