Sounds cool, but I can guarantee some mobster would come and get it back one way or the other. I’d rather reach some agreement with Police to donate the money to the Drug Foundation or something similar. And do that very publicly. And then move house.

Seems like an overtly political - not religious - action. Hopefully they once again lose their tax-exempt status.

Got an email advertising cyber monday sales on firewood. Yup, logs of wood. For cyber monday.

“Artist’s impression” is really stretching the definition of “artist” on this one.

Oh good lord, John Oliver has some clout.

Who did you vote for?

Appalling and unjustifiable behaviour. No matter your depth of feeling, this kind of violence is unacceptable.

Kia ora!

I’ve added māori to the list of languages I’m gonna try and learn in the next year. Sadly it seems like Duolingo has shelved their māori project (though I actually now think this might be a good thing).

Thought I’d check out my local library and found a great book available to borrow digitally: Te Reo Māori: The Basics Explained by David Kārena-Holmes.

I feel like te reo education in NZ for most people consists of learning a few key words, but it doesn’t really go into the grammar of the language. This book provides a really great clear explanation of the grammar and sentence construction of the language.

I think the next thing I need is flash cards for practicing the meanings of particles and prepositions in example sentences because this looks like the most complex thing to learn.

What resources have you found really useful when you’re studying māori (or any other language for that matter)?

Found this wee dude chilling on my daughter’s face after she had some play time in the sandpit.

Given that Vince is so wrong about so many things, it isn't surprising to find that also extends to finance, economics and maths.

We’re officially at a road death rate of one a day so far this year. Stay safe, don’t speed, be sober, belt up, and throw your phone in the boot.

No mention of what they’re protesting but hopefully this isn’t some sort of attempt to repeat the literal shit-show from last year.

Edit: apparently it’s people gluing themselves to roads to promote trains. https://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/news/national/traffic-disruption-warning-by-police-ahead-of-restore-passenger-rail-protest/

Ricciardo broke his hand so Lawson is finally making his F1 debut.

Move to New Zealand - we have rock-solid gigabit fibre to just about every house.

Signal. I bullied everyone I know into using it and deleted my Facebook account, so they have no other option for contacting me.

I rotate through:

  • The Coffee Workshop - Moorhouse
  • Hummingbird - Nectar
  • Raglan Roast (bit hit and miss)
  • C4 Coffee (also hit and miss)
  • Cafe L’Affare Primo
  • Robert Harris Italian Roast (better than you’d expect)
  • Coffee Supreme Blend

Most of these you can get at supermarkets. Other ones I get from here in Christchurch at some cafe’s that do their own roasting, mostly the Black & White Cartel Boss Blend from near my work.

Really good take. If federation happens (and I actually don’t really think it will), the impact will be pretty minimal.

Worst case scenario: their sheer scale means they can swamp fediverse with their spam, in which case we defederate and get back to living the good life.

Best case scenario: it enables us to follow them, and them to follow us, and it just helps things grow.

I reckon the best approach is a wait-and-see. Threads already looks pretty goofy, and I’m not sure it will have the same legs fediverse does.

Get on the bus. Hmm, weird feeling in my stomach, but I did skip breakfast.

Sit down at the office. Ok definitely feeling a bit nauseous now.

Un-ideal.
