in latin america they were nice to the white passing americans like me that i was traveling with at the time and not so much to me because my words said that i was was sorry, but things like my facial expression; or body language; or intonation said otherwise and i can't imagine how similar situations would work out if i didn't even have the words.
also that and other related experiences over the decades teaches me that the benefit of the doubt comes rare once i've committed that faux pas and the local version of "sorry" by itself doesn't work well if they're angry about the perceived transgression.
i was only looking for vacation
when i have a long list i go with audio novels first and then read written versions if there's no audio version. that way i can "read" through my list while simultaneously working and burning time on social media. lol
I've started with the audio book series entitled: Anti Imperialism of Star Trek Deep Space Nine and then i think i'm going to read theory after that.
i love lucy.
we would all drop what we were doing; get together on the couch and watch it every weeknight when my parents starting enforcing a bedtime to help get them more sleep out of their working schedules.
chrome enshitification made me switch back to firefox after 7ish years of using it as my daily driver and likewise was true for netscape.
those two previous experiences tell me that i need to start making preparations to switch away from firefox; but i can't bring myself to do it because all of the other viable alternatives are chrome based. since google already has begun publicly enshitifying chrome further i think i'll end up going with just about any other browser project that i can find and i think that these two are the two most likely candidates.
are you aware of any others?
my neuro-divergence sometimes causes people to think that i'm an asshole and if i can't speak the local language to explain that; i won't be able to explain away the autism induced faux pas that i created and that can sometimes lead to sticky situations.
when i binge watch star trek i select episodes to watch based on a topic or theme. i'm almost done watching episodes with portrayals of excelsior class ships and i'm thankful that i watch start trek like this because it provides excellent mental health pauses from my own election coverage binging. the mini mental eye-bleach-like endorphin high that i get when i notice tiny details that i missed when i first consumed star trek as it was released plus the mini nostalgia rushes from the notables times i saw the episodes i selected i for the themed binge; is all sort of like re-remembering trek, but out of order so that i can appreciate it in a different way. i find it keeps old memories alive like: waiting in line for the premiere of movie #6; or the shock of seeing the new klingons in the first movie; or unsuccessfully begging my fiance to let us have our wedding at the star trek experience in las vegas.
i also developed the habit of starting my election coverage binges with democracy now before anything else. I find that it does A LOT to sooth the anxiety i've been feeling trapped by the election and i think it informs my opinions better knowing that everyone's wary of traps and that the best traps are the ones whose targets are unaware that they're inside of one.
"a treat monster" is sort of like "tankie" in reverse; it describes the kind of american consumerist that is placated/bribed away from revolutionary thought with treats like big suv's & social privileges and they're monsters because they support genocides.
Most people around the world know how to distinguish between America the empire and a civilian American spending money into the local economy.
this is the reason why i ask this question.
my strong american accent makes it clear that i'm a clueless american and that gates my efforts to travel to places outside the core that don't speak english or spanish. to me; all of the cultures that speak both languages belong to the same hegemony as the american empire and i'm aware that my nature will result in harm coming to me if i can't atleast speak the language of where i'm visiting.
the election has put me in a strange mood and that combined with the nostalgia (good and bad) of the past from things like that poster on the wall is so hitting very hard rn; jfc this is going to be stuck in my head all day today. thank you for sharing.
-- but's still a problem for both when they have too many of certain things, like forks. lol
I think I can see the confused part; but I don't get mean.
My comment was an overall anecdotal estimation of my experiences of using windows and Linux on the same laptop. I noticed that the battery life while using Linux was significantly shorter than using windows on the same laptop. My battery life experience w my first core boot laptop seems to be on par w my windows laptop.
Also I get mean a lot; I tend to commit a lot of faux pas and people are usually too angry w me to let me understand what I said/did. I have no idea what I did for the label this time around as well and I hope you'll tell me.
