I mean I agree, I don't think it would solve all of our problems instantly.

Why can't we end it then.
We are slaves to the ruling class forever then.
We really have nothing to lose in that case, and may as well do anything and everything to end the electoral college.
We are all slaves to the ruling class until this is done.
A lot of people might decide to violently resist such an eventuality. Things can quickly go off the rails.
Remember that despite the rule of law no longer applying to the rich and powerful, the laws of physics continue to apply.
