Sounds like it might be a good time to use some form of collective bargaining. Why aren’t they all striking?

Well… This post sent me down a rabbit hole -> Unequal Hours if anyone else is curious.

Not on the side of closing it down, I do believe it has goodwill value that reminds consumers to be attentive to energy use. But, it made me think of this article where they approved a gasoline powered alarm clock.

It does, I’ve reflashed the bios a few times and rolled back to 4 different versions. No luck.

I thought of this, but I’m frozen on the bios splash screen with or without USB peripherals plugged in.

I get error 98 in boot with any USB device plugged in, which I think means USB init starts, but hangs during enumeration.

If i remove all usb devices it hangs on at D7, which i think means that USB init completes, no input found.

The fact that it’s not moving past BIOS splash screen is concerning and leads me to think this won’t be a viable solution. I’d imagine that the board will still try onboard USB first and hang before they ever reach the PCIe card. I did some other troubleshooting, at this point I’ve accepted that the board is toast.

The USB onboard controller on my ASUS Crosshair VI seems to have busted on me. That being said, it would seem I’m now in the market for a new MB.

I haven’t been keeping up with the industry and my MB crash is a bit unexpected, so I’m coming into this a bit blind. Looking for advice or feedback from your own experiences.

I have the following components:

  • 2 x 16 gb 288 pin 3600 DDR4 SDRAM G.Skill Trident Z Neo
  • EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080Ti
  • AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-core/16thread
  • Seasonic - PRIME TX-1000 80+ Titanium PSU

Looking for suggestions. Not sure if it’d be better to get a new CPU and MB or continue with the current setup with a new MB. I’m also vibing with MBs that have very little to no RGB, I’m a bit RBG’d out.

Appreciate any help or advice

(Edit: added PSU)

Aid: we have a “housing crisis” Mr. President. What if we limit how many homes an individual can own, vacation homes tend to be vacant 90% of the year and don’t contribute much to local communities.

Drumpf: Well I’m not selling any of my vacation homes. Hear me out, what if we squeeze out the poorest people from their homes and put them on the streets.

Aid: hahaha, oh wait… you’re serious

Well said. I also grew up in a ‘rightoid’ family and can confirm.

I would also add that they tend correlate wealth as a sign of intelligence and hold wealthy people in the highest esteem.

They also try to emulate wealthy people via conspicuous consumption, creating an outward illusion of wealth and success. I have a family member on section 8 who buys luxury goods to lord their ‘success’ over their friends and neighbors. It’s absolutely mind blowingly insane.

Considering switching to Linux, but I have many questions.

  1. Gaming - I enjoy gaming and want a Distro that will let me play most games. I have read that keeping nVidia drivers up to date can be (was?) a problem. I currently use steam for 99% of my gaming, I’m aware steam is porting a lot for SteamOS, but what are the limitations of this? Will I have to wait for a port before I can play a new game? Are there stability issues?

  2. I’ve developed a lot of pretty basic macros for excel in Visual Basic, I’m not a programmer by any means, but I can write some algorithms to do QoL coding. Is making the switch to open office seamless? Will my .xlsx docs incur formatting issues? Will my macros translate to whatever editor is used in open office? Does open office use the same codes for cell functions? Are there statistic package add-ons like with excel? Essentially, I’m asking how much work is ahead of me if I make this switch?

  3. I do enjoy the old version of outlook and work with many people who use outlook calendars for scheduling. Is there a similar program that will work with the same functionality on their end? (E.g. a mail client that will allow me to accept calendar invites from others and confirm it on both ends?).

  4. I am familiar with Visual Studio and use it as my IDE for very basic programming (I like to tinker with automating certain tasks in games, again by no means a programmer). Is there an equivalent FOSS version that would have a low learning curve coming from Microsoft’s IDE?

It’s unbelievable that doctor is still advocating his anti-vaccination rhetoric after being part of the cause of the outbreak. Shame on him, of all the people in this story, he is educated enough to know better.

If you get annoyed by loud cars and motorcycles, imagine the persistent buzzing in the sky from drone traffic. The future is annoying

I guess I start making donations to the post office by becoming a stamp hoarder?

What a treasure trove of data they’ll collect on us all. I hate this timeline
