The line is state sponsored violence, generally. Likely with a little bias on what state is on the giving and receiving ends of said violence. Thats the rule at least so far as I can tell, at least.

most tech should be considered state media at this point. during covid i said something about omicron being more transmissible than the original variant even in vaccinated people (true statement) - perma banned with no warning. now if you don't immediately condemn "hate" towards nazis you are also banned/warned lol

even the top phds can learn things off the amount of books that openai could easily purchase, assuming they can convince a judge that if the works aren't pirated the "learning" is fair use. however, they're all pirating and then regurgitating the works which wouldn't really be legal even if a human did it.

also, they can't really say how they need fair use and open standards and shit and in the next breathe be begging trump to ban chinese models. the cool thing about allowing china to have global influence is that they will start to respect IP more... or the US can just copy their shit until they do.

imo that would have been the play against tik tok etc. just straight up we will not protect the IP of your company (as in technical IP not logo, etc.) until you do the same. even if it never happens, we could at least have a direct tik tok knock off and it could "compete" for american eyes rather than some blanket ban bullshit.

Because Biden and Harris shouldn’t even have been the candidates in 2020…

I wouldn’t even vote for Gavin and it’s not the trans shit he just did it’s that he stands for nothing and is just playing hang out with fascists. I’d rather trump tbh

Not to mention a lot of companies are seeing search as a dead end product…

The problem with Mozilla is that their route back to greatness would require consolidation that cannot and will not happen due to lack of trust and diverging goals.

Mozilla + Proton + maybe a third party like Kagi for search (though it is api based) as separate but federated organizations is the only rational option for them ever reclaiming what Firefox used to be.

It feels like the world is too far gone for this to ever happen. Cynicism, pervasive internet and surveillance culture, and apathy just don’t make the world feel like it could go any direction people want anymore. Feels like we know the track for this and any new corporation in tech and the uber etc were the last of the unicorns where we actually bought into tech improving our lives.

Yeah, this. I had to sign a contract with the state (prior to all the Israel and Palestine stuff) and I was like the fuck is there a clause saying I can’t boycott anything to do with Israel?? Like in completely unrelated contracts you have to promise not to boycott or divest from Israel and I had no idea how or why that was even a thing because it didn’t cover any other country or entity. Israel has absolutely insanely good lobbying (or intelligence, or both).

I realized that as long as you are for state sponsored violence it is totally okay on Reddit. You can say I hope Russia stomps Ukraine’s out of existence but you cannot support violence by a non state actor.

“Us is not a democracy” is in response to republican lawmakers and pundits “reminding” everyone that the us isn’t and has never been a democracy. Just totally normal things for politicians to be doing.

Yeah I mean I got permad back in the day for saying that omicron was transmitting even among vaccinated people (like 2 weeks before that was general knowledge on the news and stuff and “accepted” information) so I get that they just censor along with whatever the current government wants but damn. I’ll take political shitpost cesspit all day over everyone banned for everything censored platform
