At that point BSD will take the place of linux I guess.

I have tried Buyvm when I was getting into selfhosting during the pandemic.

They were pretty cheap too, not sure about the pricing these days but you should take a look.

Recently I have started using this app called Nightwave Plaza. It has a surprisingly good selection of chill music that I can play in the background.

From the image, I have seen 3 of them on my youtube homepage.

It's such a distraction while you are browsing for videos... Recently I have been trying this extension to block off shorts. I think it works for the most part.

Hope this helps someone.

I still try interesting distros but the ones I daily drive are usually Arch or Tumbleweed (Void linux came close)

My favourite arch based distro is CachyOS so far, been working really well for me for the past 5 months or so.

Doesn't that violate Youtube's ToS ?

I daily drive Window managers but occasionally I also check out Desktop environments. Here is my personal preference -

DE

  1. XFCE
  2. KDE
  3. Cinnamon

WM

  1. Hyprland
  2. BSPWM
  3. Openbox / Labwc

Don't wait. Get Linux Mint Cinnamon / LMDE on a USB and install it.

If you don't like Debian based or Linux Mint for some reason, then check out Nobara or Fedora KDE spin. EndeavourOS is also great.

Hah.. I used to search up an issue and see my own unanswered question on reddit as the first result. ಠ_ಠ

I have used Freebsd for sometime on my desktop back in 2021. For the most part I had a good experience except that I couldn't figure out how to connect earphones/mic on the ports on my PC case. I had to plug it directly to my motherboard for Freebsd to detect them. I used an Nvidia card at that time and it also worked very nicely although it had much older drivers than Linux.

I ended up switching back to linux because of 2 reasons -

  1. I have a few BTRFS drives that I use regularly and couldn't afford to buy some new ones for Freebsd at that time.

  2. I couldn't play games using steam proton. I don't know the situation these days, but I'll surely check it out If it has improved since then.

You should give Freebsd a try, you might like it.

I could use discord in a mobile browser but it's a bit weird since I mostly use discord for calls than messaging.

Perhaps are there any open source clients that still work ?

Basically the title.

I mean realistically

It's been almost one year since I started working on my first job after graduating with a Batchelors Degree on Computer Science.

My job requires me to work on E-commerce websites which use salesforce commerce cloud and I don't like using it , nor do I feel any desire to learn any sort of web development. Everyday I wrap up work feeling like I'm not cut out to be a developer.... it feels like I'm stagnating.

Towards the end of my degree I was aware of the fact that my interest in fields like Machine Learning, Data Science, AI and software development were diminishing. I wanted something different, at that time Cybersecurity was the only field that really appealed to me, so I applied for a few jobs and none of them wanted freshers. Since money was tight, I had to find a job and I ended up becoming a web developer.

Right now I'm learning on the side for certifications like CompTIA Security+ (not necessarily for the certificates) in the hopes of landing a job in cybersec. I also have some Linux knowledge, but I doubt it is anywhere near the level required for a professional. I understand that cybersecurity is a broad field, so I'm still figuring out what job roles I should be looking at.

I don't know if I'm doing the right thing here, perhaps I should also consider jobs like devops too.

Any advice is appreciated.

Lately I have found an interest in philosophy. I would love to dig deeper into it when I get the time.

I just started reading Seneca's Letters from a stoic and plan to read Tao te Ching next, as I always wanted to implement thoughts from Stoicism and Taoism in my life.

I'm aware that, randomly reading different philosophical works won't give me much in-depth knowledge.

I want to know what's a good way to go about it and the resources I could use.

Some years back I was a mixplorer user, then switched to solid explorer for some time and now I'm using Material Files.

I was thinking of going back to either Solid / Mixplorer or trying something new.

I have been using ASW and SubsPlease for some time now. I also download some anime from EMBER and Judas sometimes.

What uploaders/groups in your opinion strikes a good balance between quality and size ?

I have an old LED tv and ever since I got Jio's Gigafiber I have been using JioTV as well (actually it's my parents).

My LED tv doesn't have any OS in it, while the Jio TV runs a customized Android version (if I'm not wrong). So this led me to wonder, if people can cast content playing in their phones / computers to JioTV set top box.

My apologies if the feature already exists, I just don't know where it is.

I know one shouldn't be installing apps from shady sources, but what if I just want to try out and app before actually purchasing it from the play store.

Are there any good sources to download from ?

I know that most customizability features that were once exclusive to custom roms are available for use right out of the box these days.

In the case of manufacturers like Samsung, I think, there are still no official builds of lineageOS for the newer phones after the galaxy s10 series.

I'm aware that GSI roms are available. My experience with GSI's have been kinda bad. Most of the time they lack a lot of features which makes the phone not viable anymore. Then there are also the random UI bugs, which frustrate the hell out of the user.

I miss the old days when there were lots of custom roms, even for budget devices. I used to flash them when my phones were out of warranty. I could use my phone however I saw fit.

Is there no way to bring back these good times ? Or will the whole custom ROM community just shrink to the pixels and a select few devices ?
