Me and you just think alike lol this post awakened the same sleeper memory in both of us :P

Also I think mine was technically after yours, there were no posts when I went to type my comment and yours popped up after I hit post lol

Naw, we posted at the same time. When I typed my comment (the one i assume you're refering to) there were no comments. Once I hit post this one was already here.

Great minds think alike or something like that lol

Super fair point, I'm projecting human emotions onto the beavers & don't actually know how they feel about the sound of running water lol

From what i remember, it has to do with the noise of flowing water. Bevers find the sound annoying and will cover it until it stops.

I remember a study where they played river noises from a speaker and the bevers covered the speakers with sticks -- even in the absence of any water.

They can happen to anyone. Some hypothesis why they happen include: uv damage to skin, hormonal imbalences, malnourishment, and genetic factors.

I once had one on my shoulder and it really weirded me out lol

So I found out from my grandma that my Facebook account got hacked. I haven't used it in like a decade and don't care about it, but I also don't want it being used to potentially scam people.

I told everyone I know who still uses FB to block and report the account. Today I was trying to get the account shut down and it is now locked (says it's not visible and can't be used by anyone). Is that enough to prevent it from being used for malicious purposes? My only goal is to keep people like my grandma from getting scammed.

I'm hoping it being locked is enough to solve the problem but wanted some extra feedback from people who maybe know more than me :)

I has this happen with the fifth element. I found out Luc Besson is a pedophile who has gotten multiple young girls pregnant. Including a 15 year old he started seeing when she was 13, who he left when she turned 21. The movie is so different knowing about him and his views & it really changes how i watch the movie. Its no longer a fun feel good movie for me. Especially because two of his young wives star in the film.

photo of a fuzzy palm sized moth

Any chance someone knows anything about it? It was found in the Great Lakes area. It's about palm sized, found near a tree by the playground. I returned it to an out of the way place where kids wouldn't mess it it.

same cat photo as original post, now photoshopped next to a octopus holding 8 guns

Lol here's a poorly redone version of this meme with fewer words.

Try and be upfront with people about my identity from the start to avoid that awkward 3 dates in & suddenly theyre spewing TERF shit at me.

Beyond that ive found most my relationship successes to be from friendships that develop into something else (most often with a fellow gender queer person).

Yeah there was a website floating around that had the names of all the instances protesting the federation of threads. Ill see if i can dig it up, or maybe someone else will be quicker than me to post a link

Edited to add link: https://fedipact.online/

I think the issue was more about forcing intense discourse on people who aren't interested in having that conversation at that moment.

You werent banned for calling out transphobia, you were banned because you were being pedantic and argumentative. Plus you were on a new account so everything all together made it look like you were trolling.

I think if you had stopped after one or two comments it would be fine. My rule is generally to point out something if I feel it needs to be said, then maybe give one more clarifying response, then let it go.

Another choice would be to make a separate post somewhere discussing the neuances of 'disliking politics' -- then people who comment on it clearly want to have that discussion and are opting in.

It seems like the situation triggered you, and sometimes the most productive choice is to step back from the conversation and move on.

Sorry you got banned, i hope you find a new comfy home on lemmy!

I thought it was cute, figured id share.

Let me know if theres a better community to post this to :)

Be the change you want to see. There are probably other people looking for those coversations, but see low engagement and move on. The more you post the more attractive it makes the community for other people.

I have also found that even if there are fewer comments, other people tend to respond and have more discussions.

I do have alot of hope that well see the community continue to grow & hopefully more activity as people search out reddit alternatives.
