Why are people paying to play a game where the single player mode doesn't work offline?

My friends could not care less. I even offered to let them use it for free. They just mock me about it.
That's great but it takes more than 1, or even 1M people. It has to be enough people that anti-consumer shitfuckery is no longer profitable.
Those are both the same, and would fall under #2.

Neither one seems likely. If it were we simply wouldn't be here in the first place.
Who would you jail? How would you decide whos responsible? You can't jail the entire company.
But with a sufficient size fine you can make everyone at the company regret that decision, directly or indirectly.
