Today, 16 years ago, Debian published a security advisory announcing CVE-2008-0166, a severe bug in their OpenSSL package that effectively broke the random number generator and limited the key space to a few ten thousand keys. The vulnerability affected Debian+Ubuntu between 2006 and 2008. In 2007, an email signature system called DKIM was introduced. Is it possible that people configured DKIM in 2007, never changed their key, and are still vulnerable to CVE-2008-0166?

Install OpenBSD at Hetzner (mastodon.bsd.cafe)
submitted 6 months ago by lemmyreader@lemmy.ml to c/openbsd@lemmy.ml

Hetzner (like many other providers) do not provide #OpenBSD machines.. but there is a nice #syadmin trick to install your beloved OS over whatever they provide. In this video we will see how you. In short:

  1. Create your #GNU / #Linux machine
  2. Login, wget & dd the IMG
  3. Reboot in Console and install using network installation (say http packages)
  4. Reboot in your new OS
  5. Have fun.

https://forum.aux.computer/t/the-future-of-nixcpp-lix/483

The announcement resolves one of my last fears for Aux: development on Nix itself. It is no secret that the number of people knowledgeable about the project and are willing to work on this CPP codebase is small. You have probably seen me mention multiple times by now that @sig_cli needs all of the help that we can get. Lix resolves this entirely with a trusted team of experts. This means that Aux is now able to remove Nix development from our priorities and can instead collaborate with Lix moving forward.

Well, yes, I prefer desktop. But you know, in some countries some people have nothing else than phones. I am glad that Mullvad has posted this and hopefully Google can fix the bugs soon.

This new “ruling CEO” class is bloody dangerous.

Definitely!

Let's add PFAS to the conversation. Greed of capitalism had no boundaries cause enough money for most would bring well being as well, right ? Right ? We're doomed. But let's enjoy it while it lasts.

The deal has always been that targeted advertising is how you pay for a free service.

Always is a heck of a long time. Decades ago when ads on websites slowly became popular it was just ads. But no personalized targeting.

This isn’t exclusive to Facebook.

Offering an ad free experience for a subscription fee is an extremely common practice. Do people really expect to be able to use an entertainment platform for free?

Extremely common practice does not make it good nor does it make it a good reason to normalize or ignore these things. For example exploitation in labor and in housing is also extremely common practice. No reason to make exploitation on the Internet seem like a fair game and expand it further. Sustainability should be a key word here in my point of view.

Good :-) Finally people can index search and read back answers to questions for all the open source projects that only used Discord for communication (Like SerenityOS and many others).

Nuff Said. I'm just going to leave this here : https://killedbygoogle.com

Imagine a future where every home user can run a FreedomBox or something similar with decentralized services like email with your own custom email domain, XMPP and more. No more exploitation by commercial companies.
