Well, yeah. The rate of increases is slowing, but prices are still high. There isn’t, and won’t be, deflation, that’s a catastrophically bad long term economic effect (at least, according to economists)

If it’s cheap, sure.

If they did this to me I would immediately drag my locked up cart to the customer service desk and return everything. Hard no. Not buying my groceries from a place that aspires to be a prison.

It needs some tweaks to be snappy. The defaults are really bad.

• change database from SQLite to a proper database like MySQL or Postgres, and configure the database server to use your memory fully
• increase the PHP memory limit from the default (128M on many distros) to >1G, the more the better
• install APCu in-memory cache for PHP
• add Redis as additional cache
• turn off the antivirus extension, if installed (ClamAV is useless)
• use http/2 on Apache/nginx to increase performance with multiple connections

Honestly, just go to every council meeting and every chance you get tell them what you want. That’s how all the parking lots and stroads got there, from people stomping their feet and making a scene at council. Get organized, get like minded people involved, and apply pressure on your local politicians.

Set up google search console for that domain, then it will tell you why it’s blocked. It might be a false positive you can flag, or it might be that a host or service has been compromised or contains something harmful. Google’s blocklist is quite aggressive and often blocks entire domains if one of their subdomains has a violation.

I use plain old bash with the plain old .bashrc that ships with Debian. I’ll bolt on a git-branch-aware function into the prompt here and there, but that’s about it.

Why? I ssh into a few dozen machines most days and my shitty little lizard brain can’t deal with everything being different on each box. So as much as I appreciate zsh, powerline plug-ins, all that glitzy stuff, I’ll be a late adopter when it comes to plain old Debian stable…

Or, hear me out, maybe we don’t expose network management interfaces to untrusted networks? Sure, shit can still get breached by very deep intrusions, but at least you don’t show up on shodan!?

Some people have the idea that a private business is going to break the law or defy their governments requests for them. That’s completely deluded, nobody would ever open willingly expose themself to that kind of risk. No organization is going to let themselves go on trial for $15/month. It seems we have a binary idea of privacy, when the reality is much more complex.

Taking this opportunity to personally thank you for making a good logo, I absolutely love the Debian swirl! There are so many boring geometric or single-letter logos out there, the details and texture of the swirl is just so good.

The solution is a wealth tax. It worked for the first 10,000 years of human civilization, after the 100 year failed experiment of income/sales tax it’s time to go back.
