Some sort of community space, like skate park or exhibition. In the vein of art exhibitions, it could have sections for people to do graffiti

Me too, and an illogically large amount of our work revolves around fixing the HP printers for our staff

Brand is HP/Samsung

Yea, I feel like we all had a feeling before even reading that part. Can't offer any advice other than getting a different brand, as well as this link to a fun little article I read from a few posts above yours in my feed:

Easiest one that comes to mind is the archlinux.org forums. It pops up constantly in searches, even if youre not searching for an arch specific problem, so I used it even before daily driving arch. Now I have an account on there and have made a few posts seeking help. Most of the time though someone has already asked it, and someone else has already provided a solution.

I haven't experienced any issues so far but I'll keep an eye out on that link you sent, thanks

I cant answer about the separation of username/password, but unnecessary animations seem to be a product of the ensh*ttification of the web

Hey everyone. So I am running bspwm with sxhkd, and while keybindings set by default work (i.e. super + enter opens terminal which I changed to alacritty) I can't seem to be able to add any new ones - at least that will work.

I've looked into it extensively and the majority of the posts seems to be talking about locales and keyboard layouts, but I can't seem to find anything wrong with my ones (of course I only have two eyes, so your input is appreciated). The classic is the super + space trying to run the program launcher, in my case rofi which does nothing (running rofi -show drun from terminal directly works correctly). Here is the output of the localectl status command, but of course I will provide output for any you request:

$ localectl status
System Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
    VC Keymap: uk
   X11 Layout: gb

My .xinitrc contains the following lines:

...
localectl set-x11-keymap gb
systemctl --user import-environment DISPLAY
...

I start bspwm from my .xinitrc, and sxhkd from bspwmrc using the following line:

pgrep -x sxhkd > /dev/null || sxhkd &

Any ideas on what I can do? Any commands you need me to run? As I said in the title, I'm at my wit's end.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT (ADDED CONFIG FILE LINK): https://pastebin.com/uknPbrjj

Edit2: came back to say after a system update it just works normally

Hey everyone. I'm thinking of maintaining an iso for my setup once I have that the way I like it. I wouldn't publish it so it would just be for me.

How easy would that be to do? Would it just be a case of rebuilding the iso every week/month to get the updated packages in it, or is there more to it?

Thanks!

Thought it was interesting :)

Hey everyone. So I need to make a custom iso because I don't have access to the router from my apartment and my wifi antenna uses the rtl8192eu driver, which is not included by default. Hence, I decided a custom iso was the way to go. I don't want however to bloat it up, and since I'm making it on my laptop which is running Endeavour OS I can't trust the packages.x86_64 file in the releng directory to be the default plain arch install package list (following the archiso instructions on the wiki).

So what I am actually asking for: Before building my iso, what are the packages that the actual maintainers of Arch Linux would put in the packages.x86_64 file, which we would have access to from the live environment, that I should also include (plus the 5 packages I want to make sure I have, which is the custom part of this iso)?

How I understand it reading the install guide as well as a couple forum posts, the only truly necessary packages for an arch installation are base, linux, and linux-firmware. Correct me if I'm wrong please. After installing archiso on my endeavour os laptop I had around 130 packages in my packages.x86_64 file. Many seemed unnecessary.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Some screenshots which will hopefully help

Hey guys, I'm following the tutorial above, and in his video he doesn't do anything specific to show hidden files, but it works for him. My .config/nvim/after/plugin/telescope.lua file looks like this: I've looked up solutions but they all use a different syntax, and none work for me. Any idea how I can make the find_files command also show hidden files by using this syntax? Thanks!

Firstly, I apologise if we are not supposed to request communities in here.

Secondly, if anyone is aware of a good active helpful git community please link it below so I can join.

Much appreciated :D

Hey guys! Is there a way for me to force apps to treat e.g. $HOME/.config/ as their default directory to look for settings? I want to clear up my home directory because its getting quite messy and I don't even have that many packages installed yet.

Also, any way that would be easy and efficient for use with git for the purpose of backing up my dotfiles.

Thanks!

Wayland pros and cons? (iusearchlinux.fyi)

Hey guys, what are the pros and cons to wayland if I intend to use my PC for gaming + others?

Comparisons to X?

General impressions?

Your advice on if I should use it or stick with X?

My PC parts are arriving soon, and while Ive been a linux user since 2016 its the first time I intend to fully main drive linux, so I guess im just looking for as much information as I can get on it.

Feel free to post links to articles or anything that will answer if you prefer, we're on a link aggregator after all ;) and I dont mind reading.

Thanks in advance :)

Licensing question (iusearchlinux.fyi)

Hello everyone.

I just forked this and added my own 2 themes to my fork. Both themes are based on the winternord theme contained within that repository. In the theme the author, 2xx04 clearly states at the top that their code contains modifications to Bootstrap's CSS, as well as the Nord colour scheme by Arctic Ice Studio & Sven Greb. Both of those repositories contain the MIT license, but 2xx04's repository contains no license.

My question is this: Even though technically any github repository with no license has the default copyright rules applied to it (i.e. the author has sole ownership), since they failed to include the license of the software they modified, my repository should include the MIT license, and any code written by me is mine (under MIT license rules of course, so anyone can copy and distribute it)?

Thanks in advance. Here is a link to my repository in case you need it to understand what I mean

Windows blue screen (iusearchlinux.fyi)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by promitheas@iusearchlinux.fyi to c/windows_help@iusearchlinux.fyi

I work as level 1 IT at a university, and one day recently we had a bunch of guys from M$ come for a 3 day long seminar/conference on security, hosted at the uni.

When they arrived it was my job to get them setup (give them extra HDMIs because our setup is basically docking stations locked in boxes, and there was no way I would be installing drivers on each and every PC they had.

Anyway, the first guy I was helping setup had a Windows logo on his laptop (do they make hardware as well?), running Win11. It took all of about 3 minutes for his laptop to blue screen.

I just looked at him, shrugged, and cheekily said, "Windows, amirite".

I did not get a response, funnily enough xD

Hello everyone. Im looking for a simple system that can be played by something like 3-5 people, which is simple enough to be played by an 11 year old. My sister is in her Harry Potter phase so magic and fantasy wizard setting is really helpful. I need it to be simple enough where I can teach it to my family in a night, and we can get right into whatever story I end up DMing (for the first time) for them. I really want to spend some time with my sister over the summer engaging her imagination.

Suggestions please :D

Edit: you people are wonderful, I'll check all your suggestions out for sure!
