I fancy a Mathmos lava lamp, either green oil with blue water, or something a bit warmer with violet or purple....

As usual my mum doesn't know what she wants and neither does my dad (although my mum did suggest getting him some Baileys). My boyfriend hasn't decided on anything yet, so it looks like I'm going to have to do some last minute shopping

Wow! What an amazing building, it looks like a temple or church

I thought it was modern architecture at first glance, but the fact that it used to be a postal office, and it's over a century old...

They certainly don't make 'em like they used to

This is something I've discovered about myself lately and I'm now trying to tackle, and hopefully start to dismantle.

I did a fuck up the other day and may have unintentionally offended someone (a combination of mental and sensory overload led to a louder than expected verbal outburst of frustration)

I've put out an apology and have asked for an accommodation to help with the sensory aspect, but I'm still churning inside and over thinking because of my shitty social and communication 'skills'

Thanks for your comment, it sums things up 'perfectly' 🤣

This is something that that bothers me..... I joined lemmy.ml around 3 years ago as one of the pirate subs on reddit made a backup community there in case they were banned.

Fast forward to the api debacle, I started to use lemmy as a permanent alternative, and made 3 of my favourite art communities- abstract photography, collage and printmaking

It's always been in the back (and sometimes the front of my mind) whether to move them elsewhere, partly because people commenting on their 'blanket ban' of lemmy.ml, and the fact that I sometimes feel that I'm on one of the 'pariah' instances.

It's interesting reading the comments here, especially considering the art communities are laid back, without politics, and haven't had any issues (so far).....

There are several active and very passionate communities online including Fragrantica and Basenotes.....things can get incredibly nerdy when discussing perfume, believe it or not 😀

There's also a fragrance community here on lemmy but I think it's all but dead now...

As a perfume nerd I'd love to know what this smells like, and when it'll be used to create a new niche fragrance

Really beautiful photo!

Some years ago, I saw a neat photo collage centered around power lines by some artist

Was it something like this?

I posted his work to collage sometime ago

I don't normally comment on news posts, but in this instance, FUCK CANCER

Fuck cancer for stealing my brother from me, and for taking half my bf's lung

I seriously hopes this works for everyone out there living with this disease, and for their families, friends, the people who love them....

.....and also for everyone who has died too soon and missed their chance for survival. Their donation of tissue samples and furthering the cancer research that ultimately wouldn't help them, but will help the poor bastards that are diagnosed today and in the future...It is bitter sweet

Fuck cancer

I discovered The CryptoNaturalist over at the other place, and ending up buying 'Field Guide to the Haunted Forest' and 'Love Notes from the Hollow Tree' by Jarod K. Anderson....

Which is unusual for me as I detest poetry. I think it's a pile of long-winded, navel gazing wank...Except for haiku, (because they're short and sweet, and condense things down to their essence, which I like).

I like The CryptoNaturalist though, probably because they write about nature in a weird, beautiful and wonderous way. I want to use the word 'magical' to describe it, but am reluctant, for reasons

Also, thanks to this post I just found out there's a couple of other books available which I'm going to buy tonight 😀

That lady (the pensioner, not Thatcher) deserves either a rise in her state pension and/or a New Year honour, perhaps a Baroness....?

Going back to the pagan winter festival of Yule!

When people would decorate their dwellings with evergreens like holly, ivy, pine branches and mistletoe....and how the traditions of old have been absorbed into 'modern' day Christmas

Prompt-

3 pagan winter creatures, one made out of mistletoe, another made out of holly and ivy, and another made out of pine branches and pine needles, sat around a burning yule log, photo realistic style, ratio 16.9

(I did ask for 3 creatures and ended up with an extra one)

Did anyone else see the words 'David Attenborough....' and feel their heart sink a bit, thinking he'd died?

Then I cheered up, life in the old dog yet, bless him
