Compared to renting, you pay substantially more when you own. Maintenance, repairs, insurance, property taxes, full utilities. Mortgage is just the base you pay.

At the end of the day, sure you own the house, but all those extra expenses don't go away. Lately I have been seeing retired home owners selling because they can't afford all the upkeep so they end up moving into a smaller unit.

Decades ago buying was a no brainer, but do you really think houses will continue to appreciate at this rate? Will a 2 bedroom run down bungalow really be worth 2 or 3 million in 10 years? At least with renting you can invest that money you save from not buying and get a guaranteed return.

For the record, I'm not saying not to buy, but you should not just buy because you think it is a good financial decision. It might not end up being the case depending on where you live

Which mp3 player?

If this was the reason they broke it off, then they did you a favour. A worthwhile relationship wouldn't end over something so small. Better to move onto more mature partners

Last year I completed 10 years worked at a company. I got a generic card basically saying to keep up the good work.

Someone else I worked with got a pin after 15 years.

I heard at 20 years you get a coffee mug.

I have always felt that you should be paid for travel time for a job. If it takes 30 mins to drive to work then the company should be paying you that time.

Look at how many bosses/CEOs bill their daily travel expenses to the company

Gonna push me to using a dumb phone and a Linux laptop I guess.

I want to get less reliant on my phone and go out more without it. One of the big use cases for my phone is music.

I have a lot of local music files and I would like to transfer them to a mp3 player. I would prefer something offline that I can drag files too. Also Bluetooth would be a plus so I can continue to use my earbuds.

Something easy to navigate would be ideal too. Basically like what iPods were like with a small screen where you can navigate easily and see album artwork.

I like to mute during ads now and read a book or something during breaks. Much better use of that time

I just picked up a cheap older gaming PC with a GTX 1050 and and Intel I7 CPU. Trying to decide what distro to load on it for gaming. Curious that others experience is gaming on various distros.

I'm looking to get a gaming pc. I mainly want to use it for emulation of PS3 and Xbox 360 and lower. Would also use for modern gaming some too. I would like to load Bazzite onto it so I can be on Linux and use a steamdeck like interface.

I'm looking at the second hand market and I see one with these specs:

Ryzen 5 2600 Evga GeForce GTX 1660 ADATA XPG 16GB (8x2GB) 3000mhz MSI B450m pro-vdm max 500GB NVME M.2 + 1TB HDD Thermaltake 650w 80+ Bronze Coolermaster q300l v2 mATX Case

Would this PC work well with Bazzite and run PS3 games well?

Were can I buy external ssds and hdds? I used to buy them on Amazon, but I don't want to go through them

I have been using different apps for years to follow my favorite teams and leagues. I used Bleacher Report for a while and then a few others. Problem always is at some point they get enshitified and start covering the pages with ads, sports betting, and send pushy notifcations.

I really just want something that will let me see the games being played today and send me notifcations when the games start.

I have migrated my browser over to IronFox, but I have noticed that my banking apps dont like it for signing in. I'm wondering if there is an app that can change the default browser when certain apps are open, and then revert back when they are closed.

I'm going to upgrade the micro SD card I use for emulation to one with more storage. What is the best way to close the micro SD card I have in my steam deck now to a new one so I can just plug in and go with all my games and save files?

I set up Immich on a spare mini PC running Linux Mint with a spare external HDD to store the library. Used Docker compose as recommended on the website. Everything was working great last night. Then this morning I decided to move the mini PC to a more permanent location. I powered down and moved it. When everything restarted though I discovered that I was unable to c9nnect to the immich server. I went onto the mini PC and the local host and all it says is, "connection was reset." I have tried restarting docker from terminal several times and it says the immich services are running. I still cannot connect to the server though. What can I do to fix this?

My big winter boots I have used for the last few years got a split in them today. I use them a lot as I walk about 1km a day to and from work. I have to walk up hills and on ice at times. Which boots should I buy that will be good quality, keep my feet warm and dry, and last repeated daily use?

I am coming from being a console player all my life. I love the conviency of a console, but I'm tired of all the B.S. Subscriptions, lack of exclusives, no backwards compatibly. I got a steam deck last year and I love it. I would like something more powerful though that I can plug into my TV though and game in at least 1080p with high settings. Ideally 4k with decent settings.

I am transitioning my computing to Linux and I like the look of Bazzite which is very similar to the steam desk. I would like to do a build that can replace my console. I'm thinking I should go Ryzen AMD. I'm more just wondering what components will work with a Linux build and if there are some things I should avoid. If someone has recommendations for a $1500 CAD build I would also be very interested in that.

I've been cutting out subscriptions and Spotify is the last one I would like to get rid of. I've transitioned to buying and downloading my favourite artists songs so I can own the music I love. The only thing keeping me with Spotify at the moment is the Release Radar playlist it creates for you. Basically I want to know if there is a way to get notified when the artists I follow release new music. I've been looking and so far I haven't found a viable alternative.
