If your own instance doesn't federate with NSFW instances, you won't see any.

Good riddance.

Chatgpt flat out hallucinates quite frequently in my experience. It never says "I don't know / that is impossible / no one knows" to queries that simply don't have an answer. Instead, it opts to give a plausible-sounding but completely made-up answer.

A good AI system wouldn't do this. It would be honest, and give no results when the information simply doesn't exist. However, that is quite hard to do for LLMs as they are essentially glorified next-word predictors. The cost metric isn't on accuracy of information, it's on plausible-sounding conversation.

I am not sure if American legislators realize that all these trade restrictions are only accelerating Chinese domestic chip development. The restrictions have the same effect as import tariffs, which is exactly what a government would do if it wants to protect and/or develop its own fledgling industry.

I can't even compare wages with my partner if we have to go by monthly rate.

I get paid per month, but in May I get an 8% bonus, so my monthly payment is not the same throughout the year. Then my partner gets paid every 4 weeks, and receives bonuses based on company performance in those 4 weeks. So every payment is different.

Per annum is the only way we can compare our salaries. And that's in the same country. Now try international, and it'll really difficult otherwise soon.

Maps is also seriously going down the gutter.

  1. There are ads in maps now.
  2. It works OK if you know a name, but not the location, but not the other way around. If there's any concentration of businesses, you can zoom in all you want but it will only show 1 in 2 places.
  3. Many search terms now result in residential places near the top results. I suppose these are mostly small webshops run out of homes for the same terms, but that isn't usually what one is looking for when using maps.

I have a brand new apartment. On recommendation of the constructor (new walls contain lots of moisture that needs to go out), it's set a little warmer than I'd usually go: 21C (70F). In my old place I'd put it at 18C (64F).

That said, currently it's 25C inside (77F). This place is insulated like crazy, and we don't have AC (that still isn't common over here, even for new builds). For reference, current temperatures outside are 14C (57F)

That's an innovative way to combat clickbaiting.

Yeah, huge grain of salt required.

But would be absolutely huge if true, and the recipe in the materials and methods is trivial. Both in equipment and materials. So someone else will try this soon, if people aren't already trying.

This practice destroyed several century old retail chains in my country. Got sold to some American investment fund,, via a loan placed on those company's account. Then immediately sold the real estate in prime locations these chains held, so the companies became tenants in buildings they previously owned (and had paid off 80 years ago). Waif a few years, then they die even with decent revenue.

As a Dutch person, Phillips used to be something to be proud of. Lately it's mostly a source of shame.

MBAs totally ruined that company.
