If you accidentally ban linux users in three[1] different[2] banwaves[3], then linux was only halfway supported in the first place, even if they overturned (almost) all of those bans.

I think the real reason they did it was EA's financial situation. Since money is tight, the amount of resources they were willing to put into real linux anti-cheat probably dropped to "none at all," and now we're here. Otherwise other cheater-prone games like Counter Strike, Overwatch, Halo, The Finals, DayZ, Hunt Showdown, etc would have probably dropped/blocked linux by now too.

If I played any Rockstar games, I'd be unhappy with their new anti-cheat too, since it needlessly blocks linux, but this isn't the way this should be protested. If anything, this probably validates their decision.

The way this should be protested is to just stop playing. Stop giving them money. Stop boosting their month active user numbers that they can flaunt to investors. Hit them financially, since it's the only hit they really care about. There's a sea of other high-quality games you can play instead.

EDIT: A Respawn employee on reddit is now asking for the user ID/gamertag of those banned on linux: https://www.reddit.com/r/apexlegends/comments/1fi77vs/comment/lnh13kj/?context=8

They've falsely banned linux players before, once in March 2023 and again in August 2023.

I got hit in the Aug 2023 ban, and had my permaban overturned after 1-2 weeks. Expect to have your appeal rejected, we had to make enough of a fuss about it to get a community manager to reach out to the development team to get people unbanned:

I haven't played in 9-10 months since the false positive put a really bad taste in my mouth, so I don't have any datapoints to add for the current state of things, but I wish you the best of luck getting unbanned.

I thought this might be a similar situation to Ghost of Tsushima where a PSN account is only required for online play, but Ragnarok has no multiplayer.

I don't understand why Sony is so insistent on this. PSN is still unsupported in 170+ territories; this requirement is just going to turn most of those "would-be" buyers in those territories into pirates.

Helldivers 2's anti-cheat (nProtect GameGuard) is kernel-level on Windows, but has a userspace fallback for linux

50/50 chance this breaks Deck and linux support, especially since the commenters' inquiries about it have gone unanswered.

Bogles my mind why a PvE game needs an anti-cheat at all - let alone something as invasive as a rootkit.

For those unaware, the linux version of TF2 is still 32bit, and runs on ToGL - a DirectX to OpenGL translation layer.

A few days ago, Valve published a TF2 private branch called "x64_linux_test": https://steamdb.info/changelist/21975149/

Then a few hours ago, Valve update TF2's "App Config" to include references to x64 Vulkan TF2: https://steamdb.info/changelist/22010846/

Looks like it's coming soon, in theory should bring some nice performance improvements. But "soon" in Valve Time is... who knows

This is a form of score voting, and the specific form you discuss is the method used to elect the members of Wikipedia's Arbitration Committee (although they call it "Support", "Neutral", and "Oppose" instead of "Upvote", "Abstain", and "Downvote").

"Having to deal with pre-shader work" that you mentioned is a good thing. Without it, games will stutter more. And you always have the option to skip it or disable it entirely.

But otherwise, it's a classic delimma:

I think from the perspective of the employee's reputation, it's an important distinction, due to the "with cause" vs. "without cause" implication.

When I hear "laid off" I think the person was probably a fine employee who they just couldn't keep around because higher-ups wanted more money. But when I hear "fired" I think "well did they take a shit on their boss's desk or something?"

We've been giving our cats a mix of dry/wet food (mostly dry...), but want to switch to 100% wet, since it is better for their kidneys.

We're also trying to avoid Purina/Fancy Feast/Friskies, since they're owned by Nestlé.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Edit: shoot, apparently Sheba and Royal Canin are owned by Mars, which isn't much better.

Apex is listed as Steam Deck Verified. Since Steam Deck and desktop linux use the same compatibility tool, Proton, that means both should be supported.

Additionally, the last time this happened, Apex unbanned all of the desktop linux users, which is at least a soft-confirmation that it's supported.

It's currently at 10% positive reviews. I think once this chart updates in ~11.5 hrs, it will officially be the worst-reviewed steam game of all time: https://steam250.com/bottom100
