We need Trump to be convicted and seriously punished as a deterrent. There must be extreme consequences for attempting to falsely overturn an election. If the worst outcome is loss of the election, more bad actors will do the same as Trump - and worse. This is a “line in the sand” moment for America.

Dude 5’ 10 is slightly above average for men today. https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Average_human_height_by_country

Napoleon was 5’ 6”, but again, average for the time. https://www.history.com/news/napoleon-complex-short#

He was short. But so was everyone else then.

“Restaurant / bar owner going through a divorce” is the start of many a tale about guns, sex, and/or bankruptcy.

I just saw the movie. There is nothing gay about it, unless a shirtless Ryan Gosling is too much for the commenter to repress.

VR’s issue isn’t just price. It’s obtrusiveness. You can watch TV or play a game in a room with others and often with other things going on. With VR, you need more or less a total commitment to isolation. That inherently limits It to niche users.

My Quest has basically been picking up dust since the day I got it because my life isn’t conducive to shutting out the world.

Meh. From my antitrust course in law school (which was admittedly a long time ago), nothing about this screams antitrust. I don’t see that this deal gives Microsoft monopoly power over any defined market, and Microsoft definitely hasn’t flexed any existing monopoly power over the gaming space.

Certainly Microsoft has a history of anticompetitive action and flouting monopoly power whenever it has the chance in a sector. But I don’t see this deal as giving Microsoft a vertical or horizontal monopoly. It’s just typical consolidation within the industry. It’s not for consumers, but it isn’t the result of illegal price fixing type arrangements between competitors or using an existing dominant market share to overpower the market. That isn’t illegal. That’s just a shitty industry with shitty practices.

The best argument against allowing the deal to close, under US law, is likely targeted towards the cloud and subscription models. Microsoft really does seem to have a huge edge there. But I’m not sure anyone in the industry (except Epic Games) wants to challenge the subscription practices on another player’s hardware.

I don’t think it’s in anyone’s best interests to encourage mass users to any single instance. That “everybody get in this same room” behavior is part of the problem.

Lemmy and the fediverse depend upon users distributing themselves across many reliable instances. More users in a single instance equals more demand on that individual server and more vulnerability based on that single server’s status.

Duck Duck Go search results are a little lacking, though, like it’s completely missing some possibilities. Looking up tech stuff for a Linux issue I’m having, Duck will miss a site that Google finds - and even if I enter the exact text of the site, it’s completely absent from Duck.

But it wasn’t coined to express some unfortunate external circumstances; it was to express any circumstances. And the most misogynistic of incels still believes they are being mistreated due to external circumstances. She even gave the example of someone who wants to fuck horses as part of the core.

I understand feeling empathy to those who are lacking intimacy or romance because of an unfortunate circumstance beyond their control, like a profound disformity. I can also appreciate wanting to support that group but not the larger set that self identify as incels. But there is no salvaging what has long been a group of antisocial people fostering the same dangerously hostile worldview in others.
