@clockwork_octopus You had me at "gross"! Acrylic does seem to be the consensus it seems, gonna go look up reviews of my locally available ones and see which ones are considered reliable. Thanks!

@khzimmer2 @knitting Thank you! Cotton was my first thought too but I did worry about longevity, might be worth doing some research there and see if it's a solved problem.

Hmm, this baby stuff is a whole new world to me can you tell? πŸ˜†

@Peppycito LOL! This is a nightmarish fever dream, wtf. Apologies for bringing up such a traumatising memory πŸ˜…

Baby knitting experts, I need your advice!

A friend of mine is pregnant, and asked if I could possibly do a new version of this old doll someone made for her when she was a baby.

Absolutely, happy to!

Except I have no idea what kind of yarn is both baby-friendly and also will last for 40 years like this one has.

I can probably make up a pattern, but if anyone knows one similar so I don't have to that would also be amazing.

Pointers very welcome, thank you all!

@weirdsquid @Parmesan5581

I completely expected the same from the title, of course in that case the answer would be obvious. Cast on something new, of course! πŸ˜€

@magslhalliday @knitting Oh no! I used to live in fear of something like this with DPNs and had visions of dropping them and having them roll down the whole bus. Big part of the reason I learned to just do everything magic loop instead! πŸ˜…

Bet you looked really pro recovering from that misstep though.

The perils of public bus knitting.

LOTS of bus travel for me today, so naturally I brought my sock project. Forgot I needed to frog the start of sock two and cast on again though. In public. Uhoh, pressure.

Well it is my pleasure to inform you that this morning I successfully remembered how to do a figure 8 cast on without looking up the instructions, for the first time ever 😎

I guess hardship leads to success, or something.

@Speckle Great minds! We're off on a cruise with the husband's family, should be fun, I have packed all my sewn skirts and crochet tops and etc 😎

Off on holiday today! No worries though, I've remembered the most important stuff.

My cunning plan to cast on a new pair of socks last night ran into a bit of trouble.

Still, luckily I don't mind a spot of untangling and if anything, finagling this will reduce my stress levels a bit tonight.

Plus then I get to look forward to actually casting on, yay! πŸ˜…

Almost forgot to actually post my completed #macrame project from last week, but here we go!

I am very proud of this for a first attempt, especially considering the kit and instructions weren't great.

Definitely want to do a lot more of this, I suspect most of my friends will be getting macrame'd Christmas gifts this year!

@Whitehorse @cicatrized Oh bless! Haha I can just picture the moment she realised what was wrong.

My husband is left-handed too but when I taught him, we decided to try him the right-handed way round first just in case he could manage that since it would make it easier for him to follow other tutorials. Thankfully it worked out fine!

Do you still crochet exclusively left-handed or did you find you became more ambidextrous over time?

Crochet crop top update!

Last update: https://lemm.ee/post/110769

By popular demand it is *officially* now a #crochet crop top not a tunic. Took a photo just now to commemorate how it looks before blocking, because I have a horrible feeling about this.

The sleeves currently hang a bit weird, pre-blocking, but I remember that happened last time I made this pattern too so not too worried about that. I *am* a bit worried it'll grow uncontrollably and no longer be cropped.

Wish me luck!
